Particularly with a later start time for the race, looking at that graph and everything else, the chances of it being even a damp race are pretty low. No more than 20% at the moment, if that, and that's been the case for the last few days. Got to remember there's alot of pre race support races that'd dry the track if there was any rain, but the chances of the track even being damp for the start of the race or at any point during it look pretty low right now.

There were many races last year and before that promised rain but that never came so until I see some water coming down from the sky...I won't believe any predictions.

Remember though: if this forecast is accurate, it'd only be about 2mm, 3mm max. And that's not a lot of rain.

Keep your expactations low, weather-wise.

Still enough to keep the cars off slicks though......

When we were in Melbourne at the end of February, I was amazed at how crap the weather forecasting was - or rather how vague it was.

I like how the temperature doesn't see to drop below 15 deg, and there seems to be more sun. It's like my part of the UK but about 15 deg higher! We've decided to emigrate there anyway... my luck will be that they will have lost the F1 race by the time I get there...!

So let me get this straight, in the space of a week we have boiling heat (mid 30's), hail, rain, freezing cold, wind and lots of sun.

Must be melbourne!!

As has been mentioned here (and as I mentioned during free practice in the live-forum), we're only looking at around 3mm of rain around qualifying time. Half of that will be drained in the asphalt and half of that will vapor! No, I'm not sure about that, but the forecasted rain, so little of it, will not lead to very testing conditions, to say the least.

"My" forecast had this coming between 11-17 local, but a new update now, that says 3.9mm between 11-17, and then 7.1 between 17-23. We don't know of course, if that rainfall is going to be spread evenly across all those hours, or if it will splash down during one intense hour, in which case things will obviously be more difficult.

...but anyway, it now looks like we're in for more rain, so this should be proper inters territory, or even full wets.

Looks like possible showers for FP3 and the possibility of Q1 on a damp-drying track. Might not happen but it could be a really crazy Q1 with two drivers getting knocked out with Caterham and Marrusia instead of one.

So according to the Norwegians, the rain should arrive during FP3 (14:00 local) and stay wet for Q.

yeah, I'm so happy we'll have a dry qualifying in the end. I was almost crying when saw the Q was very wet and we would need to wait Sepang or longer to truely know the pecking order.

But now it seems we'll already see that in some dozen of hours :D

Thanks guys for the heads up in the weather predictions right now

Currently roads in Melbourne still wet from overnight rain - then again Q2 is four hours away.

Should be a crazy grid, methinks...

Looks more like Silverstone than Albert Park doesn't it?

The worry is that even if Q2 is wet/damp, Q3 could possibly be dry. I'd rather have a wet/damp Q2 and the same for Q3. Would hope that means far less chance of the 2 Red Bulls comfortably locking out the front row (which is what I fear if it's dry).

I'm about to head to the track in 10mins or so and its quite cold and windy. Its only 14 degrees. It rained overnight but I suspect the track is only moderately damp at the moment. I doubt it will rain much in the next hour so a damp track is best we can hope for.

Right, and the powers-that-be were so wise to shift the race start time up, so we have even less room to play. Let us hope for the best!
