Ralf could have saved himself some a bit of grief if he had been a bit more personable, but the amount of flak he got from some sectors of the F1 cliche (Matt Bishop etc.) was pretty disgusting...

There was days he was pretty much unbeatable...

Ralf was, unquestionably, the most under-rated F1 driver of the era. Almost no-one gives him credit for his actually amazing speed, and the 'old british farts' cadre around here just abused him constantly for no reason whatsoever.

I never found Ralf very likeable, unlike Michael, but some of the treatment he got from the media, and F1 fans in general, was harsh.

I agree he was under-rated - probably due mainly to Michael's achievements. I agree with the view that matching JPM showed him to have good speed rather than JPM to be ordinary. On his day, he could be exceptional.

Ralf has managed more than most f1 drivers do. he wasn't michael and people bitched a bit too much about this.
a lot of drivers with far lesser achievement get way more praise than ralf. at the end of the day he doesn't have to rely on what "experts" say. He was bloody fast and really good. he fully deserved his shot at F1 and I don't know about too many brothers who reached this kind of level. hats off to his family

Jordans best Driver was Heinz Harald Frentzen... but yeah... maybe Ralf will start commentating F1 on RTL :p or somewhere, would be fun

HHF was a decent driver on his day. I'd put Barrichello or Irvine ahead of Ralphy.MSC doesn't count in my book after 1 race with the team.

Good driver and unbeatable on his day. Montoya's arrival really made him lift his game, I'll never forget San Marino and Canada in 2001. Both very good drives and he made the most out of that stonking BMW powerplant when needed.

Not as good as older brother, but then again, who really was?

Well, I think he was as talented as his brother... not just the same strong will...

His #1 moment for me was Spa 98, I loved the way he calmly parked his car and let the rest of the field crash into each other. Hill rather went down in my view with his radio call pleading for team orders that day.
As to his treatment from the media and fans, well you reap what you sow. From personal experience in the Williams motorhome, JPM was happy to chat and engaging, Ralf sulked around with a face like a spelkit erse.

Ralf was an F1 driver on his own merit - you don't win 6 races by being a mug - and he had some very good drives. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

Ralf was better than many give him credit for, but not as good as he himself thought he was.
I always thought he lost any edge he had after the Indy crash of 2004. Like Massa after him, I think an incident of that nature does rob a driver of that last couple of tenths as well as the killer instinct.
