Oh dear! I've just discovered that if I want to watch GP2, which I do, I'm going to have to suffer the inane rantings of the same commentator that I spent all last season screaming at.

Surely there must be somebody better, isn't there?

:(

Will 'Slimey, name-dropper, faux-outrage' Buxton?

Yeah, he does my nut.

Cecotto's act is the most obvious example I've seen of deliberately bad driving I've seen in some time.

What happened?

Cecotto appeared to think Bird held him up. As he passed Bird he slowed and turned in on him, pushing Bird off the track.

In my opinion, it is more clear cut than the incident Grosjean received a ban for.

Wow he pulled one of those Maldonado did on Grosjean a few years ago.

Don't overreact. A 10 place grid penalty or a fine is more than enough. Sure, he pushed Bird on the grass but there never really was danger. Cecotto should learn to control his emotions though.

What surprised me the most is Ma qualifying in 20th, just 1.2 sec. of the pole, who would have thought that are Chinese friend was capable of that? I expected him to be dead last. Other surprises are the 8th time of Binder (who was quick in the winter though) and the 9th spot of Trummer.

fair enough, but grid penalty is obviously too lenient I think, he squeezed and squeezed and squeezed to finally push Bird off, sth i've never seen before so actually shocking to see. If it's less than a race ban i'd be surprised tbh and it'd send out a wrong sign imo.

You can get a 10 place penalty in GP2 for locking your brakes, road rage should get you parked for the weekend.

I agree that using your car as a weapon should result in exclusion from the meeting.

Letting them go back out on track after such incidents sends an appalling message down the ranks.

Bird's been docked three places (for blocking earlier in the session) for the feature race and... Cecotto's had his fastest lap taken away.

And then they come to F1 and continue to wreck havoc. Sometimes (often) i wonder about the stewarding in GP2.

That is outrageous.

Sadly, Venezula is propping up motorsport at the mo, so they can do whatever the frig they like by the looks of it.

If Bird did block Cecotto then I don't see why he should be exempt from penalty because of how Cecotto responded.

It seems Cecotto's punishment is the one that hasn't been decided, as Bird has tweeted his. If he gets a slap on the wrist then I'll join in the complaining, but for now I'll reserve judgement.

There's no place for that kind of behaviour on track. If you feel wronged, take it up with the stewards. That's what they're there for. The moment anyone tries to intimidate another driver off the track, they should be banned for a serious length of time.

Cecotto's action was unnecessary, yes, and over the top but that doesn't mean Bird shouldn't be penalised. He did actually ruin his lap. Also Bird's got previous in this area - he caused a big crash in Monaco by driving slowly on the racing line through Swimming Pool, and then put Eriksson in the wall in the race with a similar move to Cecotto's today. He's no saint. Unfortunately the English-speaking media seems to be slightly in love with him.

I just seen the video of the incident which is bonkers. How can you be disqualified from qualifying yet allowed to race. Also the hysterical 'What are you doing?, what are you doing?' commentary was actually painful.

Very, very stupid by Cecotto. He's been in GP2 for some time now and this is definitely no excuse to over-react. If you're held up, let the stewards investigate and if no action was taken (which in this case was) then forget about it and focus on the race.

As for qualifying, good performance by Sam Bird, considering he hasn't done Malaysia before and in a new team too, it is a great result. Oh and how small is Sam Bird compared to other drivers?!

Any action, regardless of speed, that involves you using your car as a weapon should invoke a race ban IMO. Its completely unacceptable and there should be a zero tolerance approach to such dangerous insolence.

Looks like the predicted contenders are there or there abouts, surprised by Abt and Evans, although for very different reasons.

He won't crack F1, no chance, not enough $'s for a start, but that makes him sound worse than he actually is, he's a very good driver, always at or near the sharp end but doesn't quite have that extra edge. He's better than a few on the grid IMO though.
