well Schumacher and Kimi tested at the same time 2008 with F2008 and Kimi was faster than Michael despitate having no new parts like Schumi did and Michael slowed Kimi's best laptime on final sector....Anyway I have no doubts that Michael wouldn't have matched and beaten Kimi in those f2007&2008 as those were build to Michael's liking not Kimi's.Massa at the end of 2006 was already matching Michael many times, and he was even better next couple of years. Current Massa isn't even shadow of that Felipe we saw last time 2009.

Michael was not race fit when he tested. He had been out of the car. Also is there any evidence he was slower than Kimi? Back up your post with some sources.

well since hungary 2006 to the end of 2006 qualifyings went 4-2 for Massa (poles 3-0 for Massa)... wins 2-2 and points 32-30 for Michael....so not too bad from Felipe back then...

Michaels gearbox broke down and he didn't qualify at Brazil, thats another misleading statistic.

Over the year of 2006 as a whole Michael was drastically faster.

Just like Alonso sometimes falls behind Massa on pace for a few races, it rarely lasts.

I can't recall something like that too. Never heard he was slower than Kimi and by the way since when was testing qualifying shootout - different parts, different setups, different track time. We never saw Kimi and Michael on the track in q3 together at Ferrari. Nobody will ever know. And btw: Wasn't Ferrari really impressed with his (Schumacher) times?

The only article I can find referring to Schumacher testing in '07 or '08 is:

http://news.bbc.co.u...one/7080715.stm

He was the fastest on the first two days so not sure the comment holds much substance. I seemed to remember Schumacher returning and setting a lap 0.1 seconds faster than Raikkonen although that's just my memory so I wouldn't rely on it

Schumacher was not considered to be the fastest man during 2003-2006

Some educated voices around the Grand Prix paddock (I have to dig for names) actually considered Jarno Trulli to be faster than Schumi in qualifying. I remember a poll conducted by F1 Racing magazine searching the fastest GP driver except M.Shumacher and some respected analyst/pundit indicated that Trulli was THE driver fastest over the single-lap exercise even with Schumi around. Is that a good F1 myth or what ? :D

i'm surprised that the 2007 season isn't discussed more often

The 2007 season discussion used to derail all threads in the forum, and then Robefc created this:

I think that ever since we have done a good job at keeping (almost) everything there! :D

But it is true that as of lately it seems to have died off a little...

Eh? The FW-16 (which won the constructors title) was a stinker? As was the MP4-16 which came second in the WCC? Newey rarely makes a "stinker", sure they're sometimes a tad unreliable but more often than not they're quality racing cars.

The FW16B was a better car than the FW16 was as they had at least gotten most of the problems sorted out.

The FW16 was an ill-handling car that was prone to oversteer and understeer, and had aerodynamic problems as well.

Might have been the worst car Adrian Newey ever designed for a top team.

Neither of these would surprise me.

In 2006 MS was 37 years old. By 2008 MS was 39 years old.

Massa should have been able to match him, and KR should have been beating him.

That is wiping the floor with alonso to me.

Then you evidently have no grasp of the English language.

that is ignoring the Suzuka engine problem, the fuel pump in Brazil and the problems with Fisichella hitting MS in the race.

in Turkey massa was also not faster (he was way slower in Q2). Ms made a mistake in Q3 (true that) and in the race he was screwed by the SC and ended up stuck behind Alonso

Yes but I never claimed he was faster only that he matched Schumacher later during 2006 season and he did.

I already took 'wiping' back.
Hamilton beat alonso in 2007. That should be more reasonable.
