No no no no..... there is a cosmic converging singularity to a thread x squared pages titled irrelevant of factual certainties of correctness.

Considering the oil-prices going south, McLaren needs to be creative with something catchy, how about "McDonald's McLaren Honda"?

I noticed in the pictures today of Button and Alonso doing promo work for Mobil 1, Santander is no longer on the chest/stomach of the suit? All the other logos are there so it's not like it's just a Mobil 1 day, I don't think.

Someone on twitter told me Movistar is actually not going to be a sponsor for McLaren, sorry if this was already discussed, anyone know if this is true?

Has there ever been a reliable source saying Movistar is going to be a sponsor?

not really, I just assumed (and wrongly apparently) that since Movistar was the one that actually broke the news of Alonso going to McLaren that they were going to be part of the project.

Plus it was so damn heavily rumored... I don't know, I just took It for granted

Oh well

Its just really weird, 2 communications companies that had the drivers and everything in place to be a big sponsor in McLaren never happened

Telmex with Perez and now Movistar with Alonso

I don't think Movistar is interested in F1 atm but if they were I'd expect them to do something similar to what Santander is doing now than to be the main sponsor.

Did't someone say something about a high handed attitude?

I think Mclaren will be still sponsorless. They released an image of Alonso today without a main sponsor on his overalls..

Movistar is in MotoGP which is more like the Spanish Open.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ron Dennis was not only turning down sponsorship opportunities that didn't meet his valuation, but also those where there was no synergy between the 2 brands.

If McLaren want to establish a prestigious, innovative technology brand, I would have thought a fast food company logo all over their attire would somewhat devalue that objective.

But two tobacco companies didn't, why should a fast food chain?

Wish they would lift the ban on Tobacco advertising, call me silly but I actually thought the car liveries were a lot better during Tobacco times. Seeing a fag packet on a car doesn't make me want to smoke. was absolutely gutted when West parted ways with McLaren.

The world was a LOT different back then. Smoking premium brands such as Marlboro was seen as glamorous and cool.

The advertising world also wasn't anywhere near as sophisticated as it is now, in terms of understanding brand science.

Interestingly McDonald's didn't really sponsor Newman/Haas. Paul Newman did a deal with them that would give them title sponsor exposure in exchange for a decent rate for his salad dressings with Paul bankrolling the team from his own pockets. That's why McDonald's disappeared from motor racing once the great man passed away.

Unless Ron's been making vinaigrette on the side, you're probably not going to see the golden arches in F1 any time soon!

That is interesting!  I believe the case is similar with Roger Penske's #22 NASCAR. Pennzoil/Shell provides discounts to his rental truck company.

Or Shell switched to his team because they could pick up more business.

The logic being that otherwise, a title sponsorship would be announced via a still of Alonso in some overalls. I don't think you can read anything into it.

Those clothes are not the final ones, we haven't seen any Santander logo on Button and yet...

Morning! Fun but cold day yesterday filming outside for a new @SantanderUK TV ad. #ComedyGold

Someone on this forum mentioned that Santander is a drivers sponsor and not a team sponsor? Don't know how true that is

Checking this clip I just realised that Jenson was already wearing the black/white t-shirt the day of the drivers announcement.  :drunk:

What do you know, those two bums both look decent for a change, typically their apearance is more like this;
