cannot laugh, honestly! This issue bothered me all the way till today!
1. team members are also seen as part of the sporting event, currently.
2. the article sees only the driver as the sporstmen on track.

2 is the general understanding by the tv public.

It is hilarious because it is the truth. It is a Race and these positional team orders demand that drivers modify their goal - to lose! It's nuts. The goal of a race is to win. Racing 101 - day 1.
