After a surprisingly eventful California race, can NASCAR continue to ride the wave?

A lot of my fellow NASCAR regulars have been looking forward to this for another reason: the return of the Trucks, finally. Three straight weekends.

Event schedule:

Thursday, April 4

5:00 pm NSCS haulers enter infield

Friday, April 5
9:00 -10:00 am NCWTS practice
10:30 - 11:50 am NCWTS final practice
12:00 - 1:30 pm NSCS practice
3:40 pm NSCS qualifying
5:00 pm NCWTS qualifying

Saturday, April 6

10:30 - 11:15 am NSCS practice
11:30 am NCWTS driver and crew chief meeting
11:45 am - 12:45pm NSCS Final practice
1:00 pm NCWTS Driver introductions
1:30 pm NCWTS race start

Sunday, April 7

9:15 am Martinsville Speedway track walk on front stretch.
11:00 am NSCS Driver, crew chief meeting
12:30 pm NSCS Driver introductions
1:00 pm STP Gas Booster 400 NSCS race

Entry lists:
Sprint Cup
Camping World Trucks

Notables:

Nelson Piquet to return to Trucks in the 30 to run "his favorite track".
We have a celebrity in our midst. Chase Joseph Gordon-Levitt Elliott debuts in Hendrick power.
16 year old Erik Jones debuts with KBM.

Who ya got?

Ward's son is starting his career off pretty well. He ran up front quite a bit back in Daytona, which seems like forever ago, and now he gets the pole at Martinsville.

Indeed, well done to Jeb. Bubba just misses out.

Quiroga needs to string some good performanes together this year. Will be cheering him on too. And Bill's lad. And Piquet. And Buescher...

Good field, this. I predict awesome.

Quiroga needs to string some good performanes together this year.

This is super under-the-radar, but is really important in terms of credibility of NASCAR international series. If Quiroga (and Suarez to a lesser extent, since he has moved to K&N East) succeeds, then it would better validate the Corona series, Canadian Tire series, and EuroRacecar as legit ladders to NASCAR's top three series.

With Johnson on pole at this track and no Hamlin, don't count on a compelling race for the win outside of variables such as pit strategy, debris cautions, etc. Gordon will probably look good at some point but closing the deal late has been an ongoing problem.

One point of interest behind the #48 will be to see if Logano's resurgence continues after his top-5 qualifying.

It's time for Truck Trivia!

Today's lucky -and totally random- contestant is Nigerian Media Prince Jon Pollak.
Answers submitted by others WILL NOT COUNT- only Jp is allowed to guess.

Ready?

Which current Sprint Cup driver (who is the only Cup driver to compete in today's NCWTS Kroger 250) claimed pole and won here in last years NCWTS race?
Hint:
Posted Image
It is not Prince William.

Answer correctly Jp and you win it all. All of it!

Heh.

Look at all that Turner hardware up front. Of course there IS the small matter of one K. Harvick to contend with.

No that was the 07 of Galloway who spun thrice.

Great win by Sauter. Seriously impressed with young Burton, Wallace, Jones and Elliott today.

The future is bright!

Damn Piquet has terrible luck. Great job by Elliott in his debut race.

Woman participating in historically a "men's" sport is a pretty big story. The fact that there is virtually no black driver's in the sport is perhaps not something NASCAR wants to bring more attention to. I hope Wallace does well, I like diversification on the track and in the stands. It would be cool to have some Asian driver's compete as well.

Good finish for Wallace. I thought all was lost, mid race but he fought back.

5th in the points.
