Gosh, that library footage must have cost a fortune. Send me a PM, I have something you might be interested in if you need any more film.

The footage at 0:03 (and some bits later) is from 1953. The actual documentary film will be one hour + bonus material, and will be on DVD as part of a 400-page book. Glad you like the trailer...

As for the book, we just found pictures of Bruce McLaren testing his M2A at Zandvoort in October 1965, as well as of Gerhard's Berger first run in the ATS 19 years later. Also, we have been given some remarkable, original Ferrari documents related to several 1960s Dutch Grands Prix, which will probably make for a chapter in itself...

Looking at Mark's previous publications it will be a great tribute to what is unfortunately now nostalgia.

Thank you Arjan, we will try and live up to it... Looks now like the book will have well more than 1000 pictures, while the statistics will be detailed to the chassis no´s including spare cars. And you will love the original Ferrari documents - I could not believe it...

Yes David, there will be a detailed track plan of the 1939 Zandsvoort street race in it (as well as never seen before film footage of that race in the film) while we are currently scanning original track plans of the original circuit as well as the new for 1973 layout.

In the meantime, we have been given the original track drawings of 1948 (when the circuit opened) and the original letter Sammy Davis wrote to give his advice and tips for the layout and building of the track. All this (and much more) has been donated to us by the family of mayor Van Alphen, the man with the plan to build a racing track in 'his' town. Fantastic materials. Also, we have been given original documents produced by Ferrari when preparing their cars for Zandvoort throughout the sixties. Revealing stuff!

I suppose Arjan means Mark's magazine "RTL GP Magazine" (6 per year) which you can view here
Unfortunately for most of you it is in Dutch, content is a bit dutch-biased (though most of you probably wouldn't mind reading about van Lennep, Hezemans, Lammers or Luyendyk) - I would think that an English version would be very interesting for TNF'ers.

Frank --thank you. I know the RTL mag ,at least that it exists.. Yes Dutch is a very 'small' language, so bi-lingual would help.
And I think there are some out there who would like to read on Dutch drivers..
At least I have seen Carel de Beaufort racing!!

Best regards Michael

An English version... Well, we are in fact looking at creating an 'international' platform for our content, especially as we have been covering a lot of German, Italian, American, British and French topics as well for the last seven years, and will continue to do so... But first I will have to finish this book and film...

Interesting Trailer. I often think of Tragedy when I think of Zandvoort, but the trailer has the burning wreck of Williamson inside his car as 'Drama'. Whether something has got lost in translation I'm not sure, but a man being unnecessarily burnt to death is not 'EastEnders' or 'Prime Suspect'. :(

I have to confess to being equally concerned as to that footage, especially as the page ad for the film/book in the magazine appears to have a colour picture of the stricken car sliding down the track in flames. There is also a full page picture of the tragedy in one of the magazines.

Happy to see racing, but not that.

I can guarantee you that in both the book and the film, the tragic races of 1970 and 1973 are in no way presented in the manner that you are here suggesting/fearing they may be done. Footage of these accidents will be included, as any book/film about Zandvoort should do, and as for example the so well made book The Lost Generation did, and if you had been able to read the magazine's 8-page article we did on Roger Williamson and David Purley - the 'full page' that you are refering to I think - you'd know how we treat these subjects.

This looks like a fantastic book and DVD.

Two questions (that may be silly) for you, the book will be in English or at least available in English?

The other is, will the DVD have region coding, or will it be region free?

No such thing as silly questions... The book and the film will both be in English, and the DVD will be region free.

Last week, I was invited to spent a day at Sir Stirling Moss' house and interview him for the book/film. What wonderful human beings he and his wife Susie are, as well as their lovely PA Mandy. What a privilege to be able to spend some time with such great people. I was obviously already impressed by all that I'd heard and read about the man, but he is in fact even more impressive than I'd thought. I am sure his quotes will greatly contribute to the film, as he raced atr Zandvoort as early as 1949 and had some great tales to tell. At the age of 83, he has a brand new fan :)

Great to hear Mark. He raced a lot at Zandvoort, also in historics. Maybe the widest span of active years at 'our' track (1949-1988ish?).

How many nights to sleep until the release??

This week we interviewed Jacky Ickx in Brussels. As ever, one could only be impressed by his personality and charm, and his views on racing and life. What a privilege to have this unique man starring in the film!

The latest email from Mark and his production team makes me anticipate the publication date even more keenly. Am particularly looking forward to seeing the film footage from the 1939 street race and the Auto Union Streamliner and Mercedes demonstrations, and colour footage from 1953. Mark also tells us that he has obtained files which have never been seen before from the Ferrari archives.

Today I received the long awaited Grand Prix Zandvoort book. Now what a treat! I spent an hour leafing through it and was amazed by the many unseen (color) pictures. From Bira to Lauda, all who made their mark on the Dutch GP are seen. Written in English and Dutch by a knowledgeable author it brought back the memories: the wind, the noise, the smell of fries and great racing. No, an addition to my library. Have to see the CD still. Now I hope Mark Koense will come to the Dutch TNF gathering to sign my copy.
