I've never seen any footage, but airport straight line testing with no curves - except to reposition the car.

Straight line and constant radius I believe.

:p What a coincidence... Scarbs reporting Force India test.

http://scarbsf1.com/...ight-line-test/

The test is allowed as part of the Resource restriction Agreement, where a limited number of days full-scale testing are allowed. These being either the full car in the wind tunnel or at a straight line (constant radius) facility. As Duxford has a 1.5km long air strip, its only used for straight line passes, as opposed to places such as Idiada in Spain, that allow constant radius runs to be completed.

How is a straight line test such a huge cost saving? Surely the bulk of the costs are running the cars, all the staff & travel etc. Seems to me that once you're there it makes little difference if you're going in a straight line or going round corners? I'm sure there are some savings in going to airfields as opposed to proper tracks but FFS if McLaren pitched up at Brands Hatch and charged a fiver for entry they would soon make it back...

Hey I supported Button while he was slugging around in that god-awful Honda, so being a Macca fan is currently a step up

I've never quite got that either. They certainly save some money by not running a full test (limited tyre and engine use for example) but unless you're Ferrari you still have to hire a venue and lug your car about. I guess it was a trade-off to introduce the testing ban in the first place.

No, they raced without KERS and were even worse that at Canada 2 weeks ago. So more of a miracle came 3 weeks later.

Yep. They stuck the endplates pointing outwards!

Nothing quite like the support there is for Macca at Silverstone. Was blown away by how universal it was, let's see some gains

I'm pretty sure Kravitz just said that Matt Morris who left Sauber has gone to McLaren.

When having a bad year, it's always good to remember why this is a great team. Such a shame we're having a abysmal year on the team's 50th anniversary.

Good point! McLaren, Williams and Sauber were the ones who lost the most compared to last year.

From that photo it looks like they have lowered the front suspension mounting points, that would be very interesting.

Gentlemen, not sure where to post this and it isn't worth a new thread. But I heard recently that McLaren ended their run of 64 point scoring finishes. I just want to know when was the last time this happened? I guess I can do the math and count backwards, but it seems terribly tedious. I figured someone in here might know? Please?

Last time they didn't score? That would be Abu Dhabi 2009.

following that line of thought, then Paddy Lowe and Totto Wolf wouldn't have joined Mercedes since Brawn is there. Allison could be joining for a different role.

I've started a thread about Matt Morris joining McLaren from Sauber so you can chat about what this might mean for McLaren's future over there. However, please keep this thread for discussions about the MP4-28, thanks.

McLaren driver Jenson Button said: "We have to apologise to the fans but it's really wet out there and it's going to be dry at the weekend. "It's very easy to put it in the wall and we don't want to damage our new parts. If we do we'll be reverting to the old ones." Button said he expected his McLaren team to have a better weekend after a difficult start to the season, but they would not be competing at the front. "I think we should see an improvement," Button said. "Are we going to fight for a win or a podium? I don't think so, unless there's a miracle. But I think we can get some decent points."

Conditions are expected to improve ahead of the second session

The sad part is that even if we get what is expected we would still be far off.

Even a couple tenths gain relative to others could get them out in front of the guys they're currently battling with, allowing them to focus their efforts on nipping at the heels of the guys out front. Track position is still really important.

It may not mean a win, but it would be a proper good step towards getting back to that and showing signs that they're getting on top of any correlation problems they once had.

That would be the real motive for celebrations, as in my opinion, investing in this car is almost a lost cause.

Do you know Sam Michael, Sporting Director, has nothing to do with the design and engineering of the car? Apparently not.

Williams' form during his "reign" might be the answer to that.

Spend 5 minutes with him in a briefing and you'll realise why every team wanted him as soon as he was on the market.
