I'm confused, what's the difference between these two series?

They're run by the same group(SRO?), have the same kind of cars, but why have two series? Monza(Blancpain) had 60 cars, FIA GT seems to have 20-25.

Blancpain is more endurance-oriented, races are 3 hours, 1000 km (Nurburgring) or 24 hours (Spa), there's more driving time to sell to the gentleman drivers. FIA GT is a sprint series with 1 hour races.

Also, yeah, 60 cars in Blancpain at Monza, but for the Spa 24 they're actually expecting close to 80 (!!!) entries.

So it's only a difference in format? A Merc SLS has an identical specification and both series have classes for All Pro and Pro-Amateur drivers?

I mean it's cool to see Loeb driving FIA GT, but I'd rather see him(and the rest of these guys) in the massive grid races. Although it was difficult to keep track of who was where at Monza...

I tell you what though, the GT classes of FIA WEC look absolutely pointless by comparison.

It is only a difference in format as far as I'm aware, there may be some minor differences in the Balance of Performance sheets for each series. The difference between this and the WEC/ALMS/ELMS GT class is that GT3 doesn't have regulations as such, the only regulations are related to safety and vehicle homologation, car performance is balanced using BoP, while GTE is more regulated technically in terms of how much is transferred from the road car.
