NW and Sprint Cup at Richmond. Why the Trucks don't race here is a wonder to me.

Busy day tomorrow. Sprint Cup and NW practices, plus qualifying, and the NW race is Friday. Remember for the US TV guys that NW will be on ESPN3.com and ESPNews since the NBA Playoffs and the NFL Draft (lol Manti T'eo) will airing on ESPN 1 & 2.

NW Entry List

The most interesting story there would be the debut of Jeffery Earnhardt in competitive JRM equipment. Many of us have been asking what took so long for the connection to happen. Apparently, Jr. felt he hasn't deserved it until recently and Jeffery putting his ego aside and doing what he could on underfunded teams earned him his shot. http://espn.go.com/r...le-earnhardt-jr

^I'll be rooting for him. Hopefully, he runs well enough to find some seat time in a competitive car.

Brad Keselowski is fastest in first NW practice; Alex Bowman 2nd. Piquet 22nd. . .ouch.

Another copy of Brundle's grid walk eh? At least it's not Waltrip but I cannot shake the feeling the reporter needs some trimming on the waist....

Ah yes, free target practice on Busch today.

Do you think 6th was a pretty good qualifying result for Juan Pablo Montoya?

I am still suspicious. Even if he carries the speed into the race he still has his personal bad luck to contend with.

That Depends.

Stream is available in the VIP Box. No first row seats available that I could see. But when you're in the VIP box, the race ends up being just in TV.

I just learned today I have a contact who lives in Watkins Glen, so I figured I'd go up in August, pop my NASCAR cherry and watch Piquet and Ambrose win.

Eh, it's a 2nd tier series ruined by guys who have no business racing tonight in the first place. Might as well move it for a night.

Pretty much. Equipment failure at Daytona, overheating while 3rd at Texas. Penalty here.

Piquet and Scott at it again.

Piquet and Scott was called to the hauler. Let's see what the end result is.

Denny Hamlin ‏@dennyhamlin 12m
I can just picture Brian walking up and Nelson is in a full on crane stance just waiting to drop the hammer

Steve Luvender ‏@steveluvender 20m
Not sure what's better: Steven Wallace getting his hair pulled or Brian Scott getting kicked in the balls

Jeff Gluck ‏@jeff_gluck 4m
This will be the first time I’ve had the privilege of writing a story about one man kicking another man in the nuts.

Niiiice one Piquet.
Showing those S. American Futbol skills.
Judging from Scott's interview it didn't completely connect or his voice would been a bit more squeaky I'd think.

Lost a lot of respect for Piquet. No way around it, that was a cowardly move on his part.

Race was pretty good though with Kesolowski and Busch battling it out. And how about Pastrana bringing it home in 9th? He's making steady gains in his first full time effort.

Ryan Reed was also running surprisingly well and was as high as 6th until getting shoved into the marbles on that final restart.

Now I'm seeing some tweets about an altercation ending with two men police custody in the driver/owner motorhome lot. Police aren't releasing names yet.

I whole heartedly agree GM , i spent most of the race watching the battle between Patrana Swindell ,Long, Klingerman , and Lagasse for 12th thru 18th place. Especially after that caution for the Dexter Stacy crash where most of the top 10 stayed out on older tires while the 2nd ten gained on them.

I was also fun watching Sadler work his way to the front then on slightly newer tires due ot that early stop.

Bonehead of the race was Mike Wallace who should have parked his car after causing that caution on about lap 210, yet stayed out and caused another caution seconds after the green came out. Thankfully Nascar black flagged him , but i suspect Kyle Busch will have something to say to Wallace since it appeared to me Kyle had em covered til the 2nd quick caution for Wallace.

All in all a decent race but i must agree Nascar will have to make the full time sprint cup drivers to give the guys in the lower series more oportunity to star.

meh
To me it's equally chickenshit to use your car as a weapon. like Scott did after the race was over. Tough to see much in that you tube vid.

I mean I understand why there are sprint cup regs in NW... Better ratings for people that just tune in to see stars... better training for teams that want to train crew/drivers to move up their program, and for extra practice for NSC regs... but at a certain point it sort of ruins the vibe when every week its them in the top 5.

Meh, it's not really a big deal though. It's not so much them being there that's the problem, as much as it's the broadcast that focuses on them the whole race, but I digress.

Except Piquet did it too, more so than Scott in retaliation. Funny aside, I'm with nosaj, if you're going to get physical, don't kick the guy in the nuts like a child. It was just awkward as hell and now he is the punchline of jokes on NASCAR Twitter.

Anyway, one RCR guy and one of Piquet's people are in police custody after physically confronting Piquet along with some Turner Scott people. TSM spokesman says that Piquet is fine.

There are also sponsor obligations. It was pretty good last year, then Kyle had to go and start driving for Gibbs again.

I would say to make that the car driven by someone racing for Sprint Cup points not eligible for owner points in lower series, but the owner would probably park the cars rather than put a developmental or a non-Sprint Cup veteran in it. I think making less NASCAR weekends and shuffling the schedules (flip the NW schedule, but keep Homestead and the Daytona weekends alone) would work, but there would probably be some logistic issue and I imagine track promoters would have an issue with that.

Yeah. I mean it pays dividends to track promoters, sponsors, & big teams by having the publicity/putting butts in seats.

I just wish there wasn't a way that they would get all the attention. But meh, if the lowers want the publicity I guess all they have to do is get up front :p
