Just thought this is an interesting topic:

This thread is here for all info related to Race cars vs planes (fighter jets) starts ever held. I will edit the list of the first post to make the list compete of all known matches

Indy-car (Champcar series) vs F/A-18 Hornet =
Posted Image

2003: Ferrari F2003 - Michael Schumacher vs Eurofighter Thyphoon (doubleseater) = Michael won 2 run-offs and possible lost the last one
Posted Image

2007: Spyker F8-VII - Christian Albers vs F-16 C Fighting Falcon RNLAF = F-16 won

Who knows anymore of these matches...???

If my recollection is correct without checking, that Michael won one or two run-offs, but lost the last one - still during his first career.

Dont jet fighters take a while to spool up the engine? Id rather seen it vs a piston engined fighter. Still, very impressive.

Yeah, F1 cars start is their win, indeed slow start of jet, but if the jet is running it will increases speed much faster than F1 car and catching in rapidly, I guess it depends on the run off area length and which F1 and jet is competing?

Could not find it with Google, did found normal race cars against jets like below, but this thread is for F1 cars vs jets only:

They will hold the brakes with the jet at mil power and select maximum burner at brake release. Mil power to full ab takes about a second or less.

If memory serves me correctly, Johnny Herbert drove his Lotus against fighter jet in Adelaide in 1993. (Perhaps at Parafield airport?)

I remember Jensen Button racing a speedboat in the London Docks (he was on the City Airport runway) whilst in a Honda. Slightly off topic!

So, who knows about the specs of the new cars?

I kinda have the feeling they're not up to the challenge as the earlier cars were.

... and dare I say it, next year it's going to be worse.

What happened to pushing the "amazing" aspect of F1 car performance?

It was neutered in favor of providing close racing.

I rather think the planes have improved somewhat as the years have passed.

I've always felt that the true test of a racing car is a contest with a jet fighter from a standing start. Cornering and overtaking have been greatly over-rated for many years. I share your frustration with the nonsensical direction that F1 has taken by reducing engine sizes, giving the jet fighters a clear advantage.

I think that the true test would be if the F1 car had positive lift, as opposed to downforce, and see which reached 'unstick' speed first.

Many other people also felt that exact way so they invented top fuel dragsters ;)

Tbh it's just marketing bollocks anyway. It's not uninteresting since it's special though also not that interesting, but still whenever such a contest happens it always hits mainstream news so mission accomplished as far as marketing goes

My bro in law flys F-16s and even though he's now a wing commander w/ 70 F-16s under his thumb, I have not been able to finagle a ride out of him yet.
However...
They change the engines out fairly frequently and they then do a series of ground checks on them so I was able to get a ride in the front seat of one that had a new engine.
So he took me to the end of the runway and did exactly what you described, which was absolutely frightening. F-16's are not that big, and with that beast on full mil power and him standing on the brakes that thing was shaking like a leaf, and then BOOM, off we go full afterburner. Passed it's final test.
One of the most amazing things I've ever been lucky enough to do.

In the video there are shots with and without wing. I guess they tried both.
