It is hard to imagine that Alonso politely asked the photogrpaher to drop his camera to the ground. So obviously there was a physical attack.I must have missed something - when did the "beating a person" thing come up? Do you have any evidence or comment on this? I am asking because not even the photographer claimed such a thing; in his twitter he only spoke about the camera.
Alonso reported to police

Those two are not related.
I care too little about Royal families, but still Paparazzi's are terrible for them.
I dislike some singers, but Paparazzi's are not a form of punishment to their deed.

A link about Spanish law would help ;)
Have a look BTW at one of the links at your own Canadian source: http://www.sirimo.co...rsrights-v2.pdf referring to the European Convention of Human Rights: " (......) Photographers are therefore advised to be careful when taking photographs intended for some kind of publication, even when the subject is in some kind of public place. Photographs of people taken at public events are probably still permissible, at least for the present. The general advice is to get consent, and preferably written consent, whenever possible (.....)"
I guess things are least quite a bit more complicated than you like to think.
This is to protect the photographer from being sued for harassment in court. Just covering their asses. Pretty simple.

This is what I find in the dictionary if I look up the verb "to beat":It is hard to imagine that Alonso politely asked the photogrpaher to drop his camera to the ground. So obviously there was a physical attack.
1.
a. To strike repeatedly.
b. To subject to repeated beatings or physical abuse; batter.
c. To punish by hitting or whipping; flog.
2.
a. To strike against repeatedly and with force; pound: waves beating the shore.

In all the definitions above, the word "repatedly" appears. That fits with my idea of what beating a person is, ie, not taking away a camera from said person and throwing it to the floor, but hitting that person directly a number of times.

Well, maybe you should have a look at what you wrote first then. This is to protect the photographer from being sued for harassment in court. Just covering their asses. Pretty simple.
