- This track has the longest run down to turn 1 so there could be some significant position gains or losses for any fast or slow starters respectively.
- Alonso has gone for a very long gears/shallow wing levels meaning he has a very high top speed, especially compared to Vettel (though this didn't seem to hamper Vettel at all in Bahrain).

Alonso, Raikkonen or Vettel for the win, hopefully Fernando.

From 22 editions held so far in Barcelona, the Spanish GP was won from the front row.
Except for the distant 1996 when the race was held under rain and P3 Michael Schumacher won it.

Why would you not want Mercedes to win?Quite frankly, I'm not that fussy who wins (as long as its not a Merc)

I don't want a certain Red Bull to win, I'd love to see Mark win though.

Sadly for Mercedes I see them just going backwards but i'm ready to be surprised

Spanish GP 2012 start
Start will be crucial for Mercedes if they will survive it ,then probably they will be leading until their tires will lose grip.

I know why I'm not a fan of David Croft commentary
Mercs will get away with Vettel hounding them, I think VET will get past at least one of them by the end of the first lap. Alonso - Vettel for the win

Any of the top 4 teams can win, in fact they all have around a 25% chance +- a few %

There's not much use in having a high top speed if it ends up giving you trouble in the lower speed sections of the track. Bahrain was obviously an extreme and exaggerated example of this.Alonso with his superior top speed will surely win this, no?
Was the guy commentating this OK afterwards? What a clown.
It brings up an important point though, the first corner is quite high speed compared to some of the other ones out there on other circuits. With the way the grid is lined up, I just hope we can avoid any contact.

I know Vettel, Rosberg and Hamilton have each 3 new sets of hards available.
What about mediums? And what about the Lotus and Ferrari drivers?

Does anyone have an accurate overview of who's got what new tyre left for the race?

2 new sets of hards for them. All softs used once. Lotus used the additional hards twice, Ferrari once.
Vet, Ros and Ham used all softs, one for each Q round.

So it's not a given, that the merc will fall that much down in terms of tyres compaired to their competetors...

In Bahrain Rosberg was slow from the word go
If that was because of being way out the temperature window then they will surely be better here

Well, RB has superior acceleration out of the corners...
It is not so simple. Nobody knows, everybody is guessing and that is why we like it.

Eddie Jordan is doing the podium interviews today, so if any of the top three drivers slow down dramatically towards the end, that is why.;)
Frankly I'm just keeping my fingers crossed merc have solved their race pace/tyre temp/tyre eating problems and secondly that Lewis flukes into a good set up. Brawn, Nico and Lewis all sound doubtful on these issues.

No wonder Alonso is always complaining about the GP2 mentality!
#32
Posted 12 May 2013 - 09:28
I think the Ferrari's will be fine in the 3rd sector on race fuel.Alonso has to stay close through the final sector to make use of that top speed down the main straight. But, he was losing a lot of time through the final sector in low-fuel mode, so let's see how it goes in the race.

I wonder what Brawn will do if Merc are in a situation similar to Malaysia with Hamilton and Rosberg close together, but too far away from other drivers on either side.
If either driver really does not want any radio communication then overtake and let it stick. Nico failed in 2 attempts as he is not a great defender. I think Lewis would make it stick and move on.

Would Brawn let them fight if they are fighting for say 1st and 2nd? Kind of a big risk to take

How many sets of tyres did Kimi use yesterday? Three sets of medium and one or two sets of hard? I dunno which tyres he completed his second etap in Q1.
Kimi only has one new set of hards left as he used two sets in Q1

Grosjean next to Alonso is making me nervous.
Don't be! Grosjean has had good starts lately and he stayed out of trouble in many occasions. Plus, I'm pretty sure Alonso has this win in the bag .
