yeah I think it is.

The problem I have found is that I am really enjoying doing the online seasonal event, however there are 2 events in there that are for '15th anniversary' cars only. If you dont have the 15th anniversary pack, you aint gonna be entering them.

I wasnt aware the Anniversary Pack was intended to create two tiers of the game but that's exactly what it does! Its misleading to those of us with the normal game who were never told we were missing out on something more than 25 different paint jobs and a cover sleeve. Its a little frustrating but I expect I'll get a download code at somepoint, somehow.

Ho-hum. I know a lot of people are copping it and now going out to trade in standard GT6 for the anniversary one, however I'm not doing that.

What about the Senna specials? Are they included in the game or will it be a dlc later?

No endurance races ?   I won't miss B Spec races though.

I assume these will be added later.  The 24 minutes of LeMans is a nice idea though.  I suspect they'll eek this idea out a bit with maybe hour long and 4 hour long version of the LeMans race.

Started playing around a bit with it last night.  Tried to do laps of the Matterhorn course, in the dark and without the blue dotted line.  Almost impossible.

I'm not at all interested in the polish, and not much interested in which cars are available. (I used to love the challenge of driving around in a Renault 5 in GT2) I have GT5 and am wondering how much of a step forwards in actual gameplay this is, i.e. handling, physics, AI and such ? Obviously extra tracks are nice, but the Ridge Racer series proved that one or two very strong tracks are better than ten mediocre tracks. Take the Nurburgring, is the track model noticeably better than GT5 ?

And one other thing. I am thinking of buying this to replace GT5, but currently I don't have a wheel. Can people please give some suggestions of a decent wheel, for a sensible price, as I don't want to spend a fortune on one. Basically which wheel do people think gives good value, and which ones are to be avoided ? Thanks.

It seems to ME that the handling has got a lot more complex and realistic. You over power a rwd out of a curve and that back end is going away, in a way that actually feels like a control loss for instance.. you can get into, and recover, a real tank slapper. The roll actually feels right, and you can feel the load transfer. What this means is that all that track data means something. Driving on uneven surfaces is an actual challenge.

This is consistent with what I have read elsewhere.. a much more realistic model for tyres and suspension based on working with companies.

The AI is however still not the best. It is better but not aggressive enough to be a challenge.

G27 or driving force GT for a wheel depending on budget.

Baddog, my other half bought me a cheap Gamestop Steering Wheel for Christmas.

Feels absolutely horrible to use.  You really have to turn the wheel a lot before any steering iinput happens.  I've looked for settings so that the car steers with only the slightest turn of the wheel but can't find anything in the game.  Its unusable as it is.

As I suspected, PD are missing a trick not selling the anniversary pack separately, it turns out some enterprising people are on internet auction sites are instead....

Nothing in the options/steering controller menu to help?

There is an option if you keep scrolling down from this menu....

called "controller sensitivty".  Add positive values and see if it helps.  Also, go into the general steering wheel options from the main screen using the start button and see if it gives you the options to put it in simulation mode.

Tried both and doesn't seem to help very much.

I have to turn the wheel about 25 degrees in either direction before any steering input is shown in the car.  Truly awful.

I just wrote a novel about this over on GTPlanet.  I kind of gave up on GT5 about 2 & 1/2 years ago because I was looking for something that console racing just couldn't provide.  After fooling around with Rfactor, GTR/Race 07/Evo, LFS, etc, I finally settled on iRacing.  I managed to progress pretty well but between juggling my commute, working hours, kids, and my wife going back for her post grad degree, I just haven't had the time for it over the past 18 months.  And a lot of those guys in iRacing are hard core players. If you go in without practice and a good setup, they'll eat you alive.  So I bought GT6 hoping for a good off-line game.  Something I could have fun with whenever I had the time and didn't have to worry about practice and feeling guilty if I screwed up somebody else's safety rating, let alone my own.

I was able to spend a good 3-4 hours with GT6 over Christmas, without having to constantly watch the clock or fight off drowsiness. My goal was to try and progress in single player mode. And I have to say, looking at it with a critical eye, for me personally as a hard core sim fan, the off-line portion really leaves a lot to be desired. There are plenty of events, but they're all the same, start from the back, conga line start, pass the leader in 3-5 lap affairs, that involve a bunch of truly hapless, slow moving, brake checking, door closing, throttle fearing dumbots, that serve no purpose other than keeping you from reaching the rabbit out front. And while the rubber banding affect may make this game appealing for a wide ranging audience with wide ranging skill sets, I just find it laughable.  If you spin during a career mode race, there really is no drama because the more you spin, the more AI slow down for you. At least up to a point.

I'm afraid things aren't really any better in Arcade mode either. I actually had a somewhat interesting two lap race yesterday with the Ferrari Dino in Arcade mode, AI set to maximum aggression, all aids off, no ABS, stock configuration, two laps around the whole Nurburgring 24 hr course, using a T500 wheel and H-pattern shifter. And the first few cars were so slow and ponderous that I could only shake my head. Meanwhile the Honda NSX with about 50% more power was building a tremendous lead. Once past the other AI, I pushed myself very hard to try and catch up and managed to cut the gap down by half by the end of the first lap, only for the NSX to suddenly ease off at the beginning of lap two and it allowed me to pass pretty easily. And from then on, it hounded me, although I was eventually able to pull away in the twisty parts. But it was a good 35~40 kmh faster than me down the Doettinger Hoehe and handily caught up again before it bumped me twice in the braking zone and knocked me off the road. I mean, really, is this a NFS game? Do the AI have any weight? Do they even feel it when you knock into them?

At that point I tried experimenting and let me tell you, they're invincible. You can crash into them, full speed--WHAM. And they just get momentarily out of line and immediately continue on as if it was nothing. Sometimes they barely even leave the road, but if they bump you, and do it at the right moment, you're spinning helplessly out of control.  I wasn't sure whether I was playing Mario Kart or Outrun with an amazing physics model.

And the rubber banding makes me nuts. License tests and one-make events aside, during the race events, there is almost no perceptible reward for driving quickly and cleanly. If you set up to make a pass, the AI will immediately get in your way and brake check you. They are programmed to compromise their own speed and lines if it means they can get in your way and spoil your momentum. Yes, sometimes this happens in real racing too but for the most part, in the real world, you'd be racing against other drivers that are at least TRYING to drive quickly and to the best of their ability. And unless you're Sebastial Vettel with a far superior car, you can not simply drive around them and leave them for dead like you can in GT. Consequently, in GT6 there is NO point or purpose in pushing yourself, in driving at the limit of your ability, of fighting for seconds or tenths of a second. Better just to 'laze' around the track and enjoy the scenery. Because no matter how fast or slow you drive, eventually, they'll roll over for you. they should call GT6 "The Sunday Cruise".

In short, I think I'm pretty much done with the off-line portion of the game. I may go back here or there, but I doubt I'll bother completing the rest of the events and I can't really see much purpose in soldering on for the same stick and pony show.  I want a REAL race.  A race with qualifying.  A race with a grid start.  Or at least a normal rolling start where everybody can start accelerating at the drop of the green flag.  I want a race where the AI try to compete by actually driving quickly, not by acting like a bunch of pawns, blocking  you from reaching the queen (rabbit).  Sadly, off-line mode is the WHOLE reason I bought the game.  During the last 3 weeks, I had completed all of the events from Novice up though IA and I kept hoping things would get better. And then over the Christmas break,  I just went 'star searching' in order to get enough credits to partake in and pass the IB & S license tests, just so I could unlock all the content in the hopes that there was more there. And something more challenging. And if the S events are all that's left, it doesn't look like it.

I'll still play GT6 from time to time. But it's clear, much like GT5, it's better on-line with a group of like-minded friends than it is off line. And frankly, no matter how good your connection is, the PS3's hardware, the flaky P2P connection model and the PSN itself just conspire to generate an all-together unsatisfiying online mode.  16 player maximum lobbies, full of lag and fading mics.  And we won't even talk about public lobbies.  Where as by comparison, on the same connection, I can have races with 40+ other opponents with little to no lag in iRacing.

GT6 is good.  It's an improvement over GT5 in just about every way.  We know there's more coming.  And there are GREAT online options available in the lobby--just about everything you could think of.  Unfortunately, it's really a 'driving' game and not really a 'racing' game.  At least off-line.  And that's where I was really looking for an improvement.

jaisli,

One thing which I find very noticeable is just how much the cars slow down on the last lap of just about every race.  You could be miles back and then suddenly the AI decides to have every car do the last lap 5 seconds slower.

Pre ordered it, and received it on the 6th....still haven't opened it. I've actually played GT5 twice since.

I've read lots of reviews and watched videos on YouTube. Find the lack of Endurance races disappointing. Why?

And still the issue of too many ordinary cars. Is it really necessary to have 300 versions of the MX-5/ GT-R?

They have Opel, but no Manta/Ascona 400. Same with Renault, no Clio Williams Maxi or Maxi Megane Kit car. Again, they have Fiat, but no 131 Abarth.....and Skoda aren't even in the game.

They really are clueless about European cars

Yeah, exactly.  It's so bloody annoying.  I guess in theory it's a great idea because the AI adapt to your speed and it can (again, in theory) offer a competitive race whether you're fast or slow.  But in reality, I just find it aggravating because it really doesn't matter how fast you drive or how hard you push.  The first few AI are crazy slow.  And of course there's no qualifying so you ALWAYS start out in or near the back.  And in the meantime, it allows the one fast AI up front to pull out a huge lead.  But it doesn't matter, because on the last lap, they'll slow down anyway.  And we're not just talking about a small slow down.  Try taking a slower car that really can't compete.  They'll slow down even more, almost to the point where they're doing safety car pace.  It's better or worse depending on the event and what you manage to achieve with your own lap times.  But in general, the slower you go, the slower they go.  Everybody wins.  Yay!    /sarcasm.

Tried both and doesn't seem to help very much.

I'm not sure there's much else you can do.  :well: Only the wheels listed in the menu are 'officially' supported.  And I'm guessing it's not one of them.

I actually hate it when a supposed sim changes the speeds of AI cars depending on your performance. It leads to the stupid situations where you deliberately drive slowly for the first two laps to slow them down and then easily overtake all of them on the last lap. If I win a race, I want to do it by my own skill, not because the compuuter decided to be nice to me.

The only racing sim to have realistic AI was/is Live for Speed. The AI drove the car restrained by the same physics as your own car and had no 'magic grip' (like GPL). They did learn and get quicker over time but never adjusted in the race to your performance which is just silly IMO, a chink in GT6s armour by all accounts.

I'm pretty sure that the Codemaster TOCA series didn't do this, although towards the end of the series you might be hard pushed to call them sims. I imagine it is very CPU hungry to force all the AI drivers to use the exact levels of physics variables as the players car has, and of course games tend to sell on the quality of their graphics, so that is where the CPU usage tends to be assigned. For me, a pity, because I would be happy with GT2 graphic levels if the racing was thrilling enough.

The elastic AI is a bit patronising really, if I've just put my car on its roof then I shouldn't expect the field to slow down in sympathy.

It seems better in the later races though, had a blast using my LCC Rocket up against the big wings in the dream car championship. The AI in the Red Bull races seems to work a lot better too, they show no mercy for errors on my part.

Minor gripes though, overall I'm loving it - for the first time I love the cockpit view, shows the pitch and yaw of the car so nicely.

I'm liking 6. But I'm a total gt fanboy since PS1 (got +99% completion on all apart from GT5, which is 97% atm)

I still enjoy progressing through the races, picking the right or obscure car, usually underpowered (the AI still a bit pissy in the lower ranks)

Good things:

Loading times are shorter thank god

Steering (with the G27) 'feels' better, feedback feels better over the range, more subtle on the limit of grip, harder on the bumps

Bad things:

Current online issues

No B-spec :|

Things which spoilt GT5 for me... I'd be interested to hear if they've sorted out or improved any of these things:

1) The inexplicable "This car cannot be sold..." message.

2) There always seemed to be one AI car which ended up about half a lap ahead of the rest, so the game basically became about racing this one car. The rest were all grouped together at the back. WHY?!!

3) Ludicrously low prices when selling cars and no change to sale price after modifying.

4) Piss poor AI (I hear this is a bit better in 6).

5) When not signed in to PSN, it asked you to sign in three times before you could actually start a race, and then again every time you went to the main menu.

6) The terrible, terrible, terrible menu system.

7) The terrible, terrible, terrible music in the menu system.

This talk of rubberband AI has reminded my of the Codemasters Indycar Series sims from 2003-ish. They had a very clever and subtle rubberbanding system. The AI seemed to react well to your laptimes so that you'd probably be at or near the front if you had a clean race. A mistimed pitstop or spin and you would still struggle to get your lap back. But the best aspect was that after the race the game told you what level the AI had been racing at, and there was a reward for winning a race with the AI at 100%.

Really underrated console sims they were.

1: the free cars from the special edition cannot be sold I think.

2: It still does that to an extent though often it is 2 cars.

3: no idea

4: AI is better but it isnt up there with some other games

5: Not seen any problems at all

6 and 7: totally better. the menu system is now a strength which I would never have thought to say about GT!

One thing I have noted is that the game gets radically harder and frankly better at national a level. Prior to that it is training wheels. As always with GT it is up to you not to overpower your car in the main race series.. the game WILL allow you to do so, if you max out the allowed PPs you will have it too easy. The sheer number of mission races and licenses and special events where you cant overpower it at all is great though. I love chasing that gold time.

The simple fact is after playing it and from my uncle who plyaed GT 5 every day for the last few years

GT6 is just a large update for the last game.

It is as simple as that, dont expect anything radical, just a few new ideas, tracks and cars

Same as its been for 10 years

And yes that plain white Focus rally car is still there, even know

Have just completed "Like the wind" using a maxed out ZZII. Indianapolis was tricky!!

For anyone here new to the game, my advice is to get yourself a ZZII as quick as possible. It may seem a little pricey at first... but it will serve you very well.

Can't complete 5 laps of oval tracks in NASCAR without being spun out by over aggressive AI with very heavy cars!

Can't get higher than second in 1st and 3rd 125 cart races.

I don't think we'll get any of that stuff until after the GT5 online servers are closed at the end of month, the expanded GT6 community/online options will need all the server capacity. With E3 a week or so after, I think we'll get a GT6 Spec II launch, and maybe even a PS4 version announcement. That Lotus is a mighty fine looking car: Lotus_97T_85_01.jpgLotus_97T_85_02.jpg

Tobacco advertising is not allowed - that's why John Player isn't there. Assetto Corsa, F1 2013, and other games that feature JPS Lotus are the same.

Are you actually serious Yamauchi?

Shifter kart race 3 and the damn things just won't load, every time.

Disc is clean, track will not load in arcade or anything

No game have I ever experienced issues like this with other than Polyphony rubbish.

these guy are seriously the laziest bunch of idiots I can find in coding.

So, if I was stupid enough now, I would have to uninstall the game, load all the data in again, and then go through everything again to see if it happens again.

Instead I will just bin the pile of garbage.

Ugh, GT6's patches are so astronomically large and take forever to install. I recently decided to play it again after neglecting it for a few months and the time it took from when I booted up the PS3 to when I actually managed to sit down and even attempt a race was at least an hour.

I have aced all of the tests other than the damned kart track shaped like a GT, where I can do no better than 7th out of 12.  I play with a joystick and it's just impossible.  I do enjoy the seasonal events, and rarely play anything else.

The Lotus 97T is just awesome. It's a real bitch to get round Brands Hatch though... took me a long time to beat Ayrton's pole time to get the gold trophy on the time trial. Finally got down to a 1.06.6XX (can't remember full time). The turbo lag is the worst thing to deal with... takes a lot of patience with the gear selection, wanting to change down for better cornering but knowing it'll make it spin like a top on corner exit.

After long workday I did tests through and achieved silver from all but Lotus 97T at Brands Hatch. there I am 0.5s from silver. Funny thing. I have awesome Fanatech wheel, but I have yet to play GT6 with wheel since I haven't used it since November 2013 when I moved :p

That might make difference eventually.
