One of the great American gearhead destinations, the Indianapolis Hall of Fame Museum. Story and a ton of photos:

I was recently able to tour the 'basement' of the museum, the storage facility for the collection. There was so much in there that the cars were practically parked on top of each other, but you could get up close to (even touch!) everything.

Doesn't the yellow one look dangerous at any speed? Did ralph nader drive it?

Very dangerous. At speed it leans forward at a precarious angle -- quite unstable, could fall over.

Someone should create a gif of this falling apart as it is parked.

Okay, we got nasty and covered the worst. Now, in the interest of fairness and balance, here the best Indy 500 pace cars of all time. In our view, anyway.

How about you? Got any favorites? Feel free to sound off! Interested to hear what the experts think.

Hope you like this one. It seems that the 1965 Indy 500 is one of the most popular ever so I found a very nice, short (20-odd min) film-to-video of the race.

It was commissioned by the Novi people back in 1965 but since their cars fell out early (as usual) the film then went straight to the action. And actually, the Novi stuff is pretty good...and there is a segment on Novi driver Jim Hurtubise, at that moment recovering from life-threatening burns, that is moving and maybe disturbing.

Got a very nice note from the Speedway folks on this item. That sort of made my day.
