Pomp! Pageantry! Patriotic Paint-schemes! Points!
Wait, This isn't a points race.

Still, pomp!
Too right. What about Princesses?

Princesses! Well, your vote will decide on that.
Please...

Where are we racing?
Charlotte Motor Speedway, North Cackalacky.

What defines an All-Star?
You have to be a winner. Just like real life. Specifically, you must have won either in 2012 or 2013. Or you must have won a previous All-Star race. Entry list here. If you are not All-Star material, please take your sorry slow ass to the Sprint Showdown instead.
The All-Star race will be broken up into segments, firstly....oh what the hell. Read this-

Format For 2013 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race Elevates Need For Speed: Reinforcing the need for speed and going all out for the win, NASCAR announced on Tuesday the format for the 2013 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race that will put added emphasis on finishing well in each of the five segments. The sport's annual classic is set for Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. (live on SPEED) at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The new wrinkle that should have the fans and the competitors excited: the running order at the completion of the fourth segment (Lap 80) will be repositioned based on the average finish for the first four segments directly behind the caution car prior to the opening of pit road for the mandatory four-tire pit stop. The order of the cars returning to the track will determine the starting order of the fifth segment. Running order ties will be broken by the finish of the fourth segment. This revision puts a premium on making all of the laps count leading up to the final 10-lap shootout with the race winner earning a $1 million pay day from Sprint.
"Having the average finish through the race's first four segments determine how the cars come down pit road for the last mandatory four-tire pit stop takes the competition to an even higher level," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR Vice President of Competition. "The NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race is truly a showcase event for our sport and this format should bring out the best in our drivers and our teams."

Quite.

So the Sprint Showdown is full of losers?
Well if you win or place second in The Showdown that makes you a winner, and winners go to the All-Star race. It's all here and very confusing.
The Showdown should still be fun though. 40 laps, 23 drivers, all looking to grab that first or second. Or be Miss Popularity.
And it's also the one Sprint Cup race of the year with NO KYLE BUSCH!! His reaction to the news.
Entry list here.

Someone say 'cash money'?
Yep. Everyone's favorite weird smiling grandpa is throwing an extra cool $1,000,000 into the pot, He calls it Bruton's Big Bonus..
And he made a money car. Literally a car shaped-thing out of a million $1 bills.
Posted Image
37% of the bills were found to contain trace amounts of cocaine and/or Jeremy Mayfield DNA. (Reuters)

What else are you going to do if you're that old with a spare million bucks?
Posted Image ----"Bribe zee Germans?"

What else is going on this weekend?
TRUCKS!
TRUCKS!!
TRUCKS!!!

Hell yeah. Racing for points and everythin'.
Ty Dillon has already gone fastest in first practice, Jebediah the Rookie fastest in second practice, and Peters fastest in final practice.
Here is your entry list.
Brad K and Kyle Busch driving their own machines. More interesting is the fact Tim George Jr will be smashing up a Chevy this weekend, as Wauters Motorsports have up and switched from Ford metal.

Qualifying for the 200 miler starts at 4pm/ET, and we're racing TONIGHT at approx 8pm.

And now, The Most Famous Words In Autosport
Gentlemen, start your hexes!

No @JenJoCobb in tonight's truck race.

NASCAR's style pure and naive flirting on the porch... unlike that obscene scene at last race.

But wait, there's more.

They were parked next to each other in the garage and Cobb was meant to go out first in qualifying and Harmon third.

COBB NEVER SHOWED UP FOR QUALIFYING.

You think he stole Cobb too?

Anyone watching this All-Star qualifying? 3 laps, including a 4 tire change pitstop.
And NO pit lane speed limit. Wacky to see them full bore coming into pit :drunk:
EDIT- Mark Martin just entered pit road at 157mph

He entered his box sideways. I don't mean like sliding, I mean like facing the pitwall. With a long brake lock.

Oh dear lol.

This is a really fun event. The drivers are out there checking everyone's pit entry technique, they all have smiles on their faces after their runs, and even the pit crews get shoutouts from the commentary team.
I dig.

Cuz Carl wins the Pole and wants this format every week.

Dale Jr took a 5 second penalty for a dropped lugnut and goes from 2nd way down to the teens.
The sight of those cars screaming onto pit lane actually made my heart jump a couple times. Usually when you see a car do that, trouble is imminent.

But that was kickass.
