MotorSport Magazine:

I am looking for an index of articles that were written in the early 70's.

Is there a website that will have them listed?

Thank you, Jim

I am not aware of any such index

However, the complete magazines have recently been digitised, and are searchable. Your best bet would be to get hold of the relevant DVDs and use the search function on them

I have a list of contents, rather than an index, on paper but, as David says, the digital archive is much more useful. I'm sure we'd be able to help if you're looking for something specific.

An irrelevant and pedantic point: the magazine is 'Motor Sport' not 'MotorSport'. The error arose when they changed the cover design in February 1953 and reduced the space between the two words. but inside on the first page it still said 'Motor Sport' until August 1961 when they changed it to match the cover, but in the text they still referred to 'Motor Sport'. Even now, if you read the small print lising editors subscriptions etc, it is still officially 'Motor Sport Magazine'.

As to the query about an index: at one time I think they did publish an annual index to go with the binders but I would think the only copies still in existence are in bound sets. I think David's suggestion of using the indexing of the DVDs is your best approach. It's a bit clunky as it only searches for single words and phrases and doesn't allow Boolian 'AND' combinations - but it works. The only problem I have is that when searching I get sidetracked into something interesting and forget what I was looking for!

I did use the wrong term. I was actually looking for the contents.

I am looking for the race reviews and car reports on the Steinmetz, Conrero and other Opel GT racing stories.

These races were held during the years 1968-1975.

Thank you, Jim

With all due respect, Jim, I think you may struggle to find much, if anything...

Thanks for the posts.

I did purchase Opel GT Motorsport.

I will look into:

Auto Sprint
Auto Zeitung
Auto Motor und Sport

Does anyone have a copy of the contents of the above magazines? 1968-1975

How about any racing photos?

Thank you, Jim

Never much wrong with a bit of healthy pedantry, that man!

May I creep in under cover of your pedantry by citing LeMans, sometimes Lemans. Mainly, I think, an atrocity executed by those resident on the western side of the Atlantic. Pourquoi, I say.... :well:

I've not seen the book that has been recommended, but there are 117 results and 3 photo's for Opel GT 1900's 1969 to 1981 on this link.

I'm not an Opel GT specialist...but the book contains the 'whole' story, cars, rallying, racing, tuners, privateers...IMHO not a lot to be found in other publications, with the exception of 'other' photos...

Best regards Michael

Or sometimes, even Le Mans.

If I may hijack this thread with another question about Motor Sport: when exactly did the magazine stop producing contemporary F1 race reports?  I'm thinking of buying the 1990s archive DVD and I vaguely remember coming across an 1992 issue during my childhood (albeit the best part of a decade later) with a report of the Hungarian GP of that year, but I know that it hasn't done so for a long time.  Did this change happen in the 1990s?

Until 1994 there individual reports of each GP but from 1995 just data and what they call the race in brief, a column with the main facts (though there are exceptions like the 1996 Italian GP that merits one page). After 1997 the reports disappear.

Does anyone remember or have an issue of Motor Sport with a person coming down a slippery slide on the front cover...

See below...

and about 1 minute in...

Cross Posted from did Jim Clark meet the Beatles...and in Motor Racing magazine by accident

The magazine issue could concern the following:

In celebration of Sir Jackie
Page 12 from January 2010

• In celebration of Sir Jackie Stewart's 70th birthday, his sons Paul and Mark have written and recorded a song 'Fly Free' with Eric Clapton. A video has also been made by Mark. It is indeed a picture of Slowhand - in a hammock. The picture must be from 1975 or 1976 - at least that's when I saw it the first time.

Thank you Spaceframe...interesting indeed! So I wonder what deserved a front page story ?

4th of March and still the postie hasn't brought a new copy of Motor Sport. I'm getting withdrawal symptoms. What's gone wrong? I think we should be told.

I have about 400 + issues of Motorsport dating from 1977 thru to the present day (I know there are about 270 from 1977 - 2000) which I need to sell (at a very reasonable price). We are having a spring clean and I'm just not using them for reference at all so they

have to go. I'd rather they go in one lot to a good home if possible. Probably have to be Sydney based as there are quite a few boxes and very heavy to boot. Please message me or e-mail me on lrossphoto@bigpond.com if you or anyone you know is interested - lots of

DSJ in there!
