After this, I miss him in F1, what else is there to say.
Me too, I am gutted he ended his career driving that car on those tyres.
I know for a fact, give him a decent car and tyres that don't melt in 3 laps, he'd still be winning races. I have no doubt whatsoever.

Nice but I was hoping he couldn't resist hammering it.
Car probably would have ate its rear tyres and crashed at corner 6 out of 74
Or the DRS would have jammed open and car would have lost braking stability
Or geabox or fuel pump issues
Take your pick bro....

I also think Schumi needed to slow down for the end picture at the finish line

They have special super hard demonstration tyres.Car probably would have ate its rear tyres and crashed at corner 6 out of 74
Edit: just watched the video. Holy crap, that car had NO traction. Did you see how nervous it was and how much sliding/correcting he was doing? Those tyres must have been like wood. No wonder he was going slow.

I like how people are allowed to write on the circuit, I think it would be cool to do that on some tracks in F1. But tv companies wouldn't like it and fans would probably make derogatory comments about some drivers and it could also be a problem on the rain.

he was barely above idle
...it was a slow ride, nothing in stake...

Jesus wept, that's going to be people's last memory of him in an F1 car. Plodding along.
Most will not even see this...

does anybody know what tires he used? Were they Pirellis or... from someone else? ....
I guess Pirelli demo tyres would be the most likely choice.

When your a fan at the track just to see a legend like Schumacher behind a wheel is still a joy. even if it's just for show

I've just read something, unconfirmed, that he had to go at a restricted speed otherwise it would've been classed as testing!!!
as testing? In the 2011 car?

he should have just run at the regular norburgring and let it off the chain
nahh..
Normal Nurburgring is bland and boring, the Nordschleife is epic!

Yup 'fraid so.
Mercedes are still trying to understand where it all went wrong.......

agreed, but then put him in a car he could push.nahh..

the ferrari fxx lap he did on top gear was awesome.
so maybe mercedes could have put him in a DTM car or something he could have had some fun in.

They should have given him the Jordan 191 to drive. That would have been a lot of fun to see him tackle the Nordschleife in his first F1 car.

cool idea, but poor execution... an F1 car should be going fast, not just cruising around... if it's not possible to setup the car to be drivable around the track, I would agree that a DTM car or something would be more interesting to watch.

They seem to have gone crazy with the track writing. I've never seen so much. How do they do that, anyway? Is it chalk, paint, or what?Good video, pity he did not go flat out.

I noticed they changed the exhaust positioning to the top of the sidepod, yet they still had the exhaust blowing effect on acceleration. Don't know if that was interesting, but hey..... Also, I hope Schumi does a few more demos, maybe at DTM events, or wherever really. As for this demo, he was never going to cane it, and no one ever will in an F1 car round there, still doesn't stop me wanting it.
TBH I don't get why there isn't someone of the incredibly rich motoring enthusiasts giving it a go, by buying any old F1 car of the last twenty years, letting it set up as good as possible for this anachronistic track and put a random competition driver willing to do it in the thing. I bet he could get a good deal of the costs back in with some nice publicity, even if the driver name wasn't famous.
I mean sometimes much less interesting but still costly stuff does happen, like Honda doing a speed record run in the desert some years ago. Wouldn't it be much better publicity to say 'we really tried our best shot to conquer the green hell in one of our current F1 cars'?
Instead all we get is incredibly boring stuff like this.

One of the greatest drivers of all time driving around one of the greatest circuits of all time. Nice.
At a speed any random competition driver could do half asleep. Not so nice. More like the complete waste of a great name, I'd say.
I remember seeing some footage from Fangio and Brabham doing a demo run in the 70's (I think) in their old cars and that was much more fun and effort than this.

Yeah, but he was cruising. Looking at how the car looked at the current F1 track, tires must have been a regular Pirelli ones bought at the nearest store.
edit: Heidfeld videos from 2007 or whenever it was were a lot better.

spray paint - and you aren't allowed to do it. We did, snuck into a part of the track after it was closed to do it. They do occasionally clean it up as our names (mine and ex husbands) were removed last time I was there (6 years after we wrote it)

The car was just unable to generate any grip, of course he had to take it easy. Probably due to the hard demonstration tyres they fit to the cars for these publicity stunts.
#43
Posted 20 May 2013 - 02:43
Opening stints were around 8-10 laps when full of fuel. At 4.6km/lap thats 37-46km life in the tyres. With the ring being 22km you'd be going outlap to inlap.
Thats pretty depressing to think of the tyres in those terms.

They aren't "allowed" per se, but the track is just too big to police. Im sure if you got caught they would fine you or something. Afterall it is a public toll way.

nice stunt, but strange video. no engine sound, no onboard footage even though I counted at least 3 cameras on the car. I doubt Schumi was even driving at full speed
#49
Posted 20 May 2013 - 16:35
he was driving so slowly after a few corner...
It is not rocket science: He had to lift early in order to overtake the other cars close to the finish line, not kilometres before. It is a promotional run, foto finish is the keyword here, not pulverizing Bellof's record.

That's terrifying.I doubt we'll look back on Schumachers effort 30 years from now with as much fondness as we do this clip of Howden Ganley for example.
