Interesting Stephen,

I wonder if Chas did a deal with Our Col direct or had 'the local agency' via Alex Strachan?

Or Derek Jolly?

Whatmore's 11 was bought as a used car, pretty much an ex-factory-supported entry built up by John Coombes and raced by Roy Salvadori and Ron Flockhart.

Edited to correct model number.

Mark, I can't give you a definite answer on who was responsible for the Qld and Northern Rivers agency going to Whatmore.

Alex Strachan was still quoting himself as the local agent in the 12/57 SCW feature on the Slotus, he and Stan Brown were involved building. Between that project and the fact most early Lotus arrived by other means, it hardly had any relevance.

In the 2/4/58 Australian Motor News 3/58 Lowood report Tadgell's "Sabakat (monoposto Lotus)" and Whatmore "newly acquired Lotus Climax" took part. Maybe the agency bit in the Lowood advert just made things sound important in an advertising sense?

Ray. wasn't the Whatmore car officially an 11? And talking of a period still a bit early for Derek Jolly getting the nod from Colin.

Yes, Stephen, I've now corrected that...

Marc's book says that Whatmore bought the car in 'late 1957', that is before it was a year old.
