This week our racing comes from a great city. No not Monaco. No not Indianapolis.

CHARLOTTE.

What isn't there to love about this 600 mile race? I'm not sure.

Start Times:
Nationwide "History 300" Race: ~2:45pm est
Sprint Cup: ~6:00pm est

Last week in NasCar:
During the all-star race, we saw a few cars that were obviously faster than the rest of the field. One of those men was Kurt Busch. Could we see Kurt leisurely recline into the lead and run away with it early? We'll see. He starts on the outside pole today next to his buddeh, Denny.

So nationwide. Is it really on your side? I'm not too sure about that either. However, this Saturday's race sure looks like it's going to be a barnburner. Sponsored by the History Channel, I'm sure this race will bring you all of the reality tv shows that your heart desires.

Quali doesn't start until tomorrow at like 11am, so who knows who is going to start up front. The Entry List has such spectacular talents such as Kyle Busch and Joey Logano.... how could you go wrong with that?!?

All I know is, thanks to GM I now have vivd nightmares of this every time I close my eyelids.

I guess I'm just haunted by this autograph I got from ebay back in 1993.

*ahem*

Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy the racing the weekend. I'm going to try to catch all three live... Everything should work out smoothly (schedule wise) with like 3 hour buffers between each race on Sunday... I'm just really glad Pepsi can sponsor one of the biggest events on the Nascar calendar.

Anddd I've managed to make it through a Nascar post without getting in trouble. Did I miss anything? Meh.

I always watch all 3 races live. You need to pace yourself on the snacks and keep properly hydrated. 364 days a year my wife is número UNO but on this day I am king of my castle. She goes overboard to make sure I see my races and enjoy myself. She doesn't even give me a look if I eat junk food, as a matter of fact she will bring it to me with a smile on her face. It is good to be Watkins on this race day. I will grill for the 500 and have some friends over. Then kick them out when the 600 starts.

I hope there isn't any rain so people like jp going to the races can have a great time.

Greatest race day of the year! :smoking:

I promise I'll try to catch at least a hundred miles or so before I collapse into bank holiday sleep.

Sounds perfect Watkins. It's a great weekend to do nuthin' but sit down, watch racing and eat junk food.

Luckily Charmin's got us covered.

Looking forward to the Nationwide race, Now with 3 Kyles! Keep an eye out for Kevin Swindell in the #98.
Most of all I really want to see Townley and Steven Wallace involved in something stupid together. I expect one of them to drive backwards at some point.

Jp and SR388 are going to the 500 I believe. Have fun lads!

Holy ****, that's even better than I imagined from the press release.

Why does the 600 get no love?

-It's long, no bueno in modern NASCAR
-Charlotte races crappy
-We just saw them at this track last week.

So it's like, add 600 miles to the All-Star race. Bleurgh.

I wish they would do the all-star race at a different time or different track or something. One after another is just weird as a viewer.

I agree Charlotte back to back, especially if the "balls-out" All-Star race was boring as hell, doesn't fill me with excitement.
Maybe they do it this way more for the team personnel being close to home for two consecutive weeks.

I reckon they should switch the Coca-Cola 600 with the first Bristol run of the year. Monaco, Indy500, Bristol. Hell yeah.

What is the point of posting sponsor name in the title? you get nothing for advertising for them for free...so why bother?

Because that's the name of the race? How else are Pepsi 600 fans going to know where to post

Wasn't there a time that a Pepsi sponsored car won a race sponsored by Coca-Cola? That was awesome. So is this thread.

Can someone tell me what's going on with Smoke this year. He's been mostly invisible

11 races
0x Top 5
1x Top 10
Avg finish 21.9
Avg start 15.2
18 laps led.

And now PSP is outqualifying him.

I think the races Jeff Gordon is in a Pepsi car tend to line-up with the races sponsored by a Coke product.

Weird timing eh?

NOB Q:

Just read 'Fireball' Roberts was ellected to NASCAR's Hall of Fame.

So if someday Juan Pablo is chosen, will he be called 'Pelota de Fuego' Montoya ?

One thing I can't understand is that suddenly there's no praise for this race. I mean - I hate races at Charlotte and I'm thankful that I won't be even able to watch it, but last year before the race pretty much everyone here was like "Coca Cola 600 should be part of triple crown of motorsport, yeah screw Monaco or Le Mans".

Oh I definitely think it's harder to win than Le Mans, but it's one of the least entertaining NASCAR races of the year.

Well, it is a long day on Sunday, especially for those of us in cali. Looks like I'll be in a bit of a race myself here.
Crack of dawn, actualy o dark ****ing thirty for Monaco, my race to the beach from the desert for indy, and the race back to the desert for the Official Pepsi 600.
I won't be putting in 500 or 600 miles, but I'll definitely put in equal miles to Monaco.
woo hoo !

I hope not, I like Charlotte. Enjoyed myself there for 5 years.

Shitty sports city with all the transplants, though.

Mellow mushroom is the bomb. Charlotte uptown is way better than it was 15 years ago. Too bad the track is 35 minutes away. The race is too long, but it has provided some decent finishes the past few years.. Let's not pretend that 90% of nascar racetracks suck. But I'm sure I'm in the minority, because I actually miss the days before nascar started throwing cautions for phantom debris and people spinning on the apron and not hitting anything. I miss the races where everybody up to 5th place was lapped and the winner was 30 seconds ahead. That was real racing.
