Pretty much everyone was holding back at least 2 seconds of pace as Vettel showed by his fastest lap near the end.

Is Monaco a high tyre-wear track? I think even if they had crap tyres they'd be able to hold the front since it's so hard to pass.

Nope. Not much high speed corners.

also that their problem this year has NEVER been tire degradation, the media have been getting it wrong.
It appears to be mroe overheating the tires, which didnt happen in this race or at least not so bad.
Obviously there is the possibility that testing helped them, but this track is not the way to judge that as its a weird track.

Mercedes went from total **** with tyres to best tyre management in the field in two weeks. Gee, I wonder what changed?!
Answers on a postcard, pls.
Where were you last year, Merc had no problems with tyres last year on this track.

These tyres are the same thoughNot one delamination today, the more Pirelli and Merc work closely together, the safer the sport will be...

They had two tyre changes, multiple cool down laps, lots of laps behind the safety car on a track known not to overly stress the tyres aero wise or be too abrasive. It really isn't a gold standard for testing car tyre management and durability. Before the revelation of the test today lots of people were predicting a Mercedes win
This. Long runs in practice, especially Rosberg's, clearly showed that even one cool-off lap in a long run prolongs tyre life. And with the multiple SC deployments, they got plenty of those.
Of course, the 1000 km could have something to do with it

I am not sure that we know where that car is today in comparison to others. I would ignore Monaco as an indicator of anything serious.

If they have no issues with tyres in Canada then it has definitely unfairly helped Mercedes. Reserving judgement till then.

Which team or driver had a severe tyre drop off today? I didn't see any. They were all conserving tyres heavily. The nature of the track allowed Mercedes to dictate a particular pace. They were always going to have a better chance of winning Monaco than Barcelona. Everyone was saying so prior to the race. The safety cars and red flag also helped the tyres for everyone. This was not a normal tyre race.

Canada isn't hard on the tyres or loads. So it won't be an accurate like for like comparison with Barcelona.

You are totally clueless. Not one delamination today, the more Pirelli and Merc work closely together, the safer the sport will be...
Anyways, this track wasn't expected to destroy any tires, so what happened wasn't surprising. If they can do this in Canada and Silverstone, I'd say they've 'unlocked' their potential, but I seriously doubt it.

They introduced a new suspension already this race though. That was on the design board earlier this season, you don't come up with a new suspension in less then 2 weeks. If they have no issues with tyres in Canada then it has definitely unfairly helped Mercedes. Reserving judgement till then.

But we're they the same, I believe they were the new Merc spec tyres, developed in Barcalona. These tyres are the same though
As you can see, much safer, first race without delamination, good job Pirelli and Merc, they have saved lives with the new construction.

Different compounds.
The Merc has been much, much closer to the competition on softs/super softs than it was on hard/mediums
This track is difficult to pass on.
RB didn't have their shi*t together.
Ferraris were too busy crashing / getting stuff stuck in their wing.
McLaren are a world away from the pace.
You are aware that the test involved all sorts of prototype tyres that are not in use in F1 right now and may never be seen ?

What test? In season testing is banned by the regulations, a team could most certainly not pound the test track with their current car for three days with Pirelli engineers, that would be truly shocking! You are aware that the test involved all sorts of prototype tyres that are not in use in F1 right now and may never be seen ?
