Well, in NASCAR I'm convinced the safety crews stand around until the driver is 'finished' whereas in Indycar they actually take safety seriously.

Rofl so true

I am confused. Do they use Sunoco fuel?

Just like my pit crew.

good race from Pagenaud, nice to see him win after coming just one lap short last year in Long Beach (?), well deserved. Although this was propably the worst race since Toronto 2011

I like these doubleheaders. Hopefully it's going to be a regular feature now. Either one of these races were better than that big lead change number.

It's a shame the coverage missed Pagenaud's overtakes - he was in 9th on one lap and then 5th a few laps later... one or two of those were pitters, but the rest weren't. Then there was his pass on Dixon, which was also pretty much missed.

Yes, that made me raise an eyebrow, but then Franchitti's radio said that his fight with Conway was for the win so I thought I must have been missing something. Apparently not!

Lol, came home from work (at an indoor go-kart track) and started watching the race. The driving standards seemed to be at the same level as what I had spent the last five hours watching :drunk: It was fun in a way, at least. Happy for Pagenaud, and utterly surprised at James Jakes holding on to second.

What was wrong with the driving standards?

Accidents galore in the first half of the race. I'm thinking that maybe double-file restarts aren't really suitable for street circuits (I'm imagining an Indy race at Monaco now!).

Monaco races (GP2 and F1) were a crash-fest too. Street circuits generally don't make a good race track. Add in the bumps at Indy ones, plus the double file restarts...

Every time there's a crash or two in an IndyCar race people moan about "driving standards". I'm sorry, but throw 20-odd IndyCars onto a street circuit, especially one like that, not once but two days in a row, and you're going to have a couple accidents.

The driving standards were pretty good in my book. Overtakes were clean, with not much blocking from the defending driver. There were plenty of side by side moments without any contact and it was only the crowding at the start/restarts that caused problems, and that is true of any high powered single-seaters on a tight street circuit.

Actually think the IndyCar field has pretty good strength and depth these days.

Number of winners from different teams showing that. Also that experienced guys like Bourdais, Wilson and Briscoe struggle to make an impression. * I'd expect them to be competing for the title in a GP2 field for instance (hey if Pantano could win it).

* not to mention Rubens

That first corner accident was the only major incident. And that was just due to drivers being congested. The straight did narrow very quickly, and with one driver going sideways and essentially stopping sideways (in Power), it forced the already narrow circuit to narrow more. Happened before in Monaco (1980 GP is a prime example), and happened at many street circuits before, regardless of whether there were good or bad drivers on the track.

Now talking about driving standards in IndyCar, I don't see any really major issue. If I was a driver, there are more drivers in IndyCar I feel comfortable to drive around in close proximity with at those speeds than F1 or any other formula in racing.

IndyCar has a wonderfully strong field this year, it really does have a large number of the best drivers in the world outside F1. There are so many top class drivers and it's been a pleasure to follow the series last year and this year in particular.

She didn't crash much if I recall though. Just was slow enough where with Beaux Barfield, she'd have probably not qualified for races.

Milka's Indy 500 and oval career in IndyCar was decent enough for her time , and her race & street course results were somewhat weak,

But you you will never have full fields of drivers doin similiar times week end and week out, and if you do you will see pack racing which breeds pileups.

In fact one of the skills missing from the IRL during Milka's time there was so many drivers seemingly lack of ability to set up slower racers and get past them without causing an incident. And like it or not you need slower drivers on the track to help the better drivers perfect their passing skills effectively.

Will Power and Sebastien Bourdais were both put on probation for the remainder of the season for violating the same rule as Saavedra after their collision in race two.

Power, who threw his gloves at Bourdais, was penalised for improper conduct towards a competitor, while Bourdais was punished for comments made towards an official on pit road.

Isn't it a bit different when you do it live on network TV?

So Bourdais would have the lowest penalty in theory because this is the first any of us have even heard about it.
