Last year was a 60 lap race, this year we're doing 70 laps twice? I didn't know that. I thought the double headers were going to be like hour long races each or something. But now each is longer than the original? Ay caramba.

60 laps was the shortened race distance after the fun and games with the track surface. According to last year's thread the original distance was going to be 90 laps.

70 will be on the short side, somewhere between 90 minutes and 1 hour 45, I reckon.

No, definite news to me if that is true... but on comparative performance, not surprising tbh.

I have a mental block on a non-American in a National Guard car. It was weird having Wheldon drive it. Especially when he did his "God Bless the Troops" interviews. It's just..strange.

I heard Conway is reconsidering a full time Indycar drive. Perhaps he was unhappy about how Foyt was running the operation in 2012? His WEC schedule doesn't clash with any ICS events except Baltimore.

Curt Cavin just tweeted that JR has been taken out of the #4 at least for now. https://twitter.com/...185933531975680 Most likely replaced by Oriol I guess.

I feel like this is a great opportunity to think about various rumours surrounding the National Guard funding. But I will discuss them telepathically to save the forum and myself trouble.

I was expecting Briscoe at Ganassi. I guess Chip isn't rolling out the 4th car for anyone else then.

Shame for Servia (who still has the best helmet design ever), but I am stoked about Briscoe. Panther has been proven to be a great seat in the past and while I think parting with Hildebrand was a bad idea, they couldn't have thought of anyone better to put behind the wheel.

I'd like to initiate a rumor regarding said rumor that I can't confirm in any way, shape, or form. The rumors rumor is that the National Guard money will go to Penske for the Dinger.

Edit: Tags and Newgarden with 1:18.2 and .3 respectively. Weird that Bourdais is slower than his namesake teammate so far...

Doesn't look like it. ABC wouldn't show qualifying, only the races, but NBC Sports Net I thought would, but no dice. And NBC Sports Listings only has AMA Motorcross and the Motorsports Hour (usually sprint car racing) this weekend on the racing side.

Let me see if I get this straight: Dario wins pole for the first race, but since he had an engine change, he gets a 10 spot penalty, leaving EJ Viso on the actual pole.

EJ Viso: the mother duck leading her ducklings onto the track. This might go well...

Now that's a jumbling of a grid. A bunch of really fast drivers who will start towards the back, and if Dario wasn't stuck in the pack, he'd have had a fun day.

Mike Conway is quick. Sorta like Justin Wilson. You put him in mediocre equipment and he does extremely well. Makes you wonder if he'd had joined Andretti in 2012, instead of 2011. 2011 was a truly off year of the team.

Wet weather and a few red flags helped.

Qualifying for the second race will actually occur before the first race is run -- during a Saturday morning open qualifying session, with the field split into two groups and 12 minutes of track time for each.

It could be worse.

They aren't?

The only complaint I have is the handling of red flags during practice\qualifying sessions, they should stop the clock as well.
