I'm cooking a cassoulet this afternoon/evening and since I messed up the timings and everyone has to eat the damn thing it's touch and go whether I'll make the green. So I want some extra descriptive posts about the race to read when I do make it to a screen.

The Carcassonne or Castelnaudary version? I once passed through the latter during the latter town on the day of the "fête du cassoulet" (no kidding!). Unfortunately, for some reason they didn't want to hand out the cassoulet before 7pm (or something like that), and as I was starving, I just had a kebab and drove on... :|

Anyway, I now try to get used to the double header thing, and right now I think that two races are probably not that bad!

No one here is that much of a jerk. Including me. :p

On Detroit, I would love to get one wet race and one dry. My fear is we'll get one 'normal' Detroit in the first race and the second will be zzzzzz as everyone perfects their setup and race strategy.

Any chances for a wet race today?

Grand-Am are running right now, looks like it's sunny and relatively clear at the moment.

Er, pass! I put sausages and duck and bacon in. It's sitting in the oven now, happy as Larry.

This is a lot of fast cars starting at the back. I fancy we're going to get a fifth winner from six races today.

So enjoy your meal, Risil. I can smell it even here :D

I would like to see some cars with a different pit cycle. I always enjoyed the question whether the leader has enough fuel to go to the end. Weren't there some CART races where sometimes the leading 2-3 cars ran out of fuel in the final 1-2 laps? It might not be the pure all-out racing stuff, but I always thought it added some spice. Especially on a track such as Belle Isle, it might not hurt.

EDIT: it appears that Detroit 1997 had leader Gugelmin and then leader Blundell run out of fuel in the last lap, with Moore winning it.

People usually complain when that happens in Indycar (see: numerous Indy 500s, Chicagoland 2007).

I know, and I don't want to recommend it or see it on a regular basis, but it can make the end of an otherwise boring race interesting. And you cannot say that it is fake in any way, because there are no green-white-chequereds in IndyCar, and so everybody can take the gamble or leave it, and if you hope for a yellow that does not come, you cannot blame anybody else. You took a gamble and lost, fair and square.

But they cannot reduce the turbo anymore the way you could during CART days to reduce consumption, can they?

They still have a fuel knob. See: JR Hildebrand, St Pete 2013.

Yeah, I the two Pacwest cars tried to do the whole thing on one fuel stop. Think at the race at Nazareth the previous year Cheever in the Foyt car ran Fittipaldi pretty close on a similar strategy. Compared to the Byzantine stuff we saw later (Papis at Laguna Seca 2001 springs to mind), that was pretty clear cut.

1 Corner a racetrack does not make.

Though I thought the turns directly before and after were far more interesting and challenging. At least in the track-day I did. The rest of it is pretty average. VIR or Road Atlanta are much more fun to drive.

Also, for the uropeeans, green in about 40 mins.

In honor of Risil's cassoulet I'm having Pörkölt, which is a Hungarian dish like Goulash but minus the vegetables and what not. So like meat and gravy. I'm basically a medium sized dog.

But I used goat.

If Dixon's car okay, two thumbs up to Dallara! The idea to make the whole rear unit replaceable might keep a couple of cars in a race over the course of a season. In F1, his race would have been over.

Conway clearly found an amazing setup, I don't think he's 30 seconds ahead of Wilson on speed alone.
