Dang, some of you are using a pad for this? Just tried and I couldn't make it out the Ford Chicanes to start a lap lol! Kids JUST went to granny's for a while so I'll give this a whack. I have a 3:30.068 in the Oreca Pug on racing hards. Surely I can knock 4-5secs off with softs

What wheel setup are you guys using? I am still running my good ole trusty G25

I'm redstorm3rising online if someone wants to play

Oreca Pug 3:26.821
Audi R10 3:26.846

Audi lap was way better than the Pug, I just cant seem to get it right in the Pug from Arnage to the line.........

Same the G25 with wheel stand pro. The 908 is miles quicker than the Audi if you get a good feel for it by the way.

I have a setup optimized for race hards on the Oreca and it just doesn't work for me on the softs. Ill have to play around with it and I'm sure I can knock 2 secs off. If I can get it to handle like I have the Audi right now then it would be great. The Audi just has that whole torque problem......spins the tires out of any corner below 130mph.

Oh I also ran both cars with full downforce.

I'm driving with a standard pad, hence my efforts have been limited to the 500pp and GT class so far. LMP and C Group cars are only manageable with TC at least on 4 with a pad and you have to be extremely cautious. I came within 4 or 5 seconds to the top times with the Sauber but didn't feel I could go much faster without investing a lot of time.

Re: Jova's advice on gearing be cautious. Some car's have peak power output before the red line so if your're revving out you aren't at peak power...;)

Yup, thanks for that, with the NSX I could find quite a bit of top speed with lengthening 6th gear.

All my laps were on a standard pad too! I'd like a wheel and pedals but they are so noisy I'd wake my kids up given they are always in bed when I have a chance to play on PS3...

Went for it in the Audi 4x4 pikes peak Quattro lol. Got a 4:31 on the outlap and I was already six seconds quicker by the second chicane on the mulsanne then had a massive tank slapper breaking for mulsanne corner and ruined my lap...

4:24 in a tuned up Dodge RAM on the outlap, could have maybe eeked out a 4:20.

Just tried a Dome Zero, pretty good but it has shocking lift off oversteer so you can't commit into the breaking zones got a 4:20.6 after loads of attempts just to get a lap without binning it.

OK finally managed a decent lap in the NSX, 4:10.466 :) Best sectors makes a 4:09.xx.

Still havn't cracked the wheel out.

This one dedicated to Simonsen :(

Interesting car choices, Crooky :) I find the PP quite erratic between cars (guessing RAM was 500pp?) and some clearly don't stand a chance. I used to assume it was purely power to weight ratio but it also takes down force into account bit then ignores tyre type and weight of the default car doesn't seem to count much, hence why starting with the lightest car possible seems the way to go every time. I think the Elise or Exige (in GT5?) with 300+HP would be good. I tried the Vx220 turbo but with only 5 gears and a peaky turbo powercurve the lightweight can't be taken full advantage of.

Jeez, are you guys fast!
4:18,370 is my best after trying for two days. The car: Ruf CTR Yellow Bird '87, which I consider the fastest 500 pp road car GT5 has to offer. I can see no way how I could find 6 or 8 seconds. I thought it was the car so I tried the NSX, but couldn't manage any sub-20s with it.

Ristin- I can't imagine the CTR is as good in the corners as a well setup NSX-R. What top speed you hitting? I'm hitting about 178mph on first part of the straight. Have spent time tweaking the setup? I think the setup gives me over 5s compared to the default setup with same PP. Mostly suspension, ballast and gearing tweaks. Fwiw I've only done about 8 completed laps in all cars but about 10 aborts for each one

Gotta love the solitary police men on Les Hunaudières in the game - always reminds me of the real ones in the opening scenes of McQueen's Le Mans.

In the corners a NSX is definitely faster. But I'm easily (very easily, that is) catching him on the straights. compared to the " ghost" of me driving the NSX. As I said: I am some two seconds slower with the NSX.
Yes, I did of course fiddle around with the settings of both cars. Especially the Porsche is way too delicate in standard trim.
The main problem is I don't get to grips with the track. Never did. Can't find the brake points for the second chicane and the Porsche curve, can't carry enough momentum through Tertre Rouge. I even struggled with the license tests at Le Mans and could only win any races by cutting the chicanes. Thought this challenge was a good occasion to finally get over it. It wasn't - I am officially done with this track now. l :p

By the way: On any future challenges I would love to see tire use for road cars limited to sport tires. What do you guys think about it?
Ristin

Oh, and to answer your question. I'm doing some 172 kph on the straight. No doubt my mediocre performance through Tertre Rouge spoils better speed.

Thread is great idea  , only came across it today.
For the following times, I had soft tyres, traction control/ABS of 1 each and I use just a normal controller
Peugeot 908: 3:29:129
Mazda 787B: 3:25:914
I just couldn't seem to get the power down in these cars, nor am I any good with powerful cars in general, so I will be a long lost last in those groups.
Oreca Viper: 3:42:863
Had a much better time with this car and even got into the mid 1:42's but I went in too heavy for the second last chicane and cut it.

I agree on the sports tyres. With racing tyres and decked susp these cars aren't very road like anymore and actually a bit too twitchy to be fun.

Will give the CTR a go next week but think you need to tweak the gearing if only hitting 172kph ;)

Tried the Dome Zero again and got a 4:16.7, I was on for a slightly quicker one but again lost it into mulsanne corner...

Tried the RUF RGT and its just too slow down the straights, handled nicely enough but again 4:18.

So just tried the BTR and even with someone else's tuning setup it's a handful. Sideways through the first chicane, sideways through the corner leading onto tetre rouge where I had to make a lightening quick save. It doesn't even seem that quick down the straight and I over cooked it coming out mulsanne corner (clearly my bogey corner!). Went alright through Indianapolis and arnage but then the weird breaking into the Porsche Curves through me right off and I ended up in the wall Toyota style.

A 4:18ish lap was probably on the cards without mistakes.

:(

Tried another beast the Sauber C9 and got a 3:14.020, I knew I could go quicker and annoyingly I was about a second quicker by Porsche curves but I just put my wheel out slightly too far and the lap didn't count.

How much corner cutting are you guys doing on those top laptimes? I noticed quite a few corners can be cut IMO that should DQ a lap......

Any of you have a video of your lap? Like to have a look to see where I'm loosing out.

I guess as much as you can get a way with!

Tetre rouge for example you can get away with running all the way onto the Tarmac runoff on the outside. But apart from that you can't really push it that much and the penalties around the back half of the track including the ford chicane are really quite tough.

I'm not cutting anywhere. The only place for me where I may be pushing it is the right hander onto the 1st long straight, you can run just a tad wide there on exit, but I try to keep 2 wheels on the track at all times. I'm just a little impatient there, everytime!

I have the ghost saved, not sure if you can view it as a replay.

Monaco could be good. Keeps the real world track tradition going and the track getting shorter tradition. Might be a good giant killing track too.

Yeah, good start, I'll set it up in another thread, I'm thinking three categories like we had with this one
1. Ferrari F2007/F10
But I can't think of any other cars that have races there, maybe a bugatti in honour of the first car to a race in Monaco? anyone else, got an idea or just have a simple one like a Performance point limit category or French cars only category

Spa, Laguna Seca or Tsukuba would be my favourites, the latter two with road cars preferably. Driving high powered cars with a pad sucks.

Forgot about Spa, my new choice :) Maybe European road cars on sports tyre only? Will still be power biased but not as much as Le Mans, Spa is the drivers track.

Is Spa even part of the game, I couldn't find it in my tracks list?
Anyway, I'll narrow it down Laguna Seca vs Spa
Laguna seca gets my vote

Spa wasn't part of the original game but added later on. If your playstation is connected to PS network, you should enter the shop and check the DLCs. Spa is within the so called Course Pack, which will cost you $4.99. Hope this helps.

How about both Laguna and Spa, and we submit a combined time with the same car in addition to each individual track time? I was late into GT5 so when I bought it the DLC code was included with the game so had the course pack.

I like that idea actually, so now its down to what cars/categories do we want
I'd love to have a go with an f1 car around Laguna Seca, any suggestions

I would stick with vanilla stuff if possible, and easily obtainable cars. This maximises people taking part after all.

Hmm my lap still doesn't seem to have registered

On another note there's a 500pp FR 5 race event on the seasonal events at the mo, perfectly tailored to the GT86 used in the LM challenge. After 3 attempts at trial mountain and no mistakes I managed to beat the supercharged shelby thingy with a lap and half to go and best lap of 1m35.8. Gauntlet layeth'd down! Great fun driving that thing on sports tyres, manageable slides etc.
