Le Mans brings back almost everything I missed in formula 1

Yeah. I'm not complaning too much over modern F1 but in terms of true racing passion, spirit, atmosphere etc it just lacks so much in comparison to Le Mans.

I agree that Toyota was just not fast enough. But it doesn't mean that their effort or the result were bad - on the contrary.

I don't think that was anything to do with the driving talent though. They certainly got the most out of the car but the #2 Audi was easily the fastest car in the field and once they had that lap in hand could just manage the gap.

Eurosport commentator mentioned that its €34 for general admission access to every session (over 30 hours of action)! So much more accessible prices for racing fans compared to F1.

Edit: I looked myself and I have no idea where he pulled that price from, maybe I misheard in the early hours of the morning. Prices still excellent nonetheless

I got into Silverstone WEC for free last year with my 5 year old son. Good job to as it turned out he was only interested in the fair ground, which was also free

I would never hire Perez, Maldonado, Grosjean for a 24hr race.

Awesome indeed. Its my favourite race of the year, every year, no question. No!thing to do with it being what F1 isn't for me. Nothing to do with it. I just love the immense mental, physical & engineering challenge. And the "gentlemen" mixing it with the big boys!

I agree with everyone above - this is my favourite race of the year too. F1 doesn't even come close for the effort all the teams go through just to get to the finish, or the emotion at the end of the race.

More British people attend Le Mans than attend the British Grand Prix. No surprise is it? Better race, better value for money, better event.

Dumas and Bernhard raced the 991 at Le Mans this year. The others don't have much in the way of prototype or single-seater experience, most is Richard Lietz's two years in F3 about a decade ago.

I think you need someone who's impressed in powerful single-seaters, F1 or not. Hence the importance of DTM and Formula Nippon to the sports car scene. There's a couple of Indycar drivers having disappointing seasons I wouldn't mind seeing in a sports prototype, come to think of it.

Some unconfirmed reports (again via Radio Le Mans) were mentioning a "current F1 driver" having a seat fitting for the Porsche LMP1 quite recently.

Dumas and Bernhard raced the 991 at Le Mans this year. The others don't have much in the way of prototype or single-seater experience, most is Richard Lietz's two years in F3 about a decade ago.

I can see Marc Lieb being involved with the LMP1, but not on the driving side, more on the engineering side.

My general admin ticket definitely says €62 on it, however it is still marvelous value, third year in a row going this year, will be back in June next year. It's a week long festival that the race is just a part of.

However, Allan's death has cast a huge shadow over the whole event, so very sad trackside. RIP Allan.

Ah, my comment Well, sorry that I am a man of emotions, that I did indeed cry a number of times during the Le Mans. Like they did on Radio Le Mans, like it sounded like Martin Haven did at Eurosport. As Fisichella struggled to not do during his interview during the race.
I guess I should've known that emotions have no place in motorsport

I guess if you like watching people weld guardrails and about 6 hours of running behind a Safety Car it was a great race.

Normally enjoy Le Mans but this year...not so much.

ADR-Delta/G-Drive Oreca-Nissan excluded from 3rd place in LMP2 due to an oversized fuel tank (75.4 liters upon measurement, maximum is 75). This promotes the #42 Greaves Zytek (Michael Krumm/Lucas Ordonez/Jann Mardenborough) to the podium.

And in other news, in order to get the scheduling done nice and early, and with the express intention of avoiding a clash with any F1 GP (and the Nurburgring 24h, which is on the June 21-22 weekend next year), the WMSC has decided that the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place on June 14-15 next year.

I'll be there once again.

With the amounts spend on building the cars, I am always amazed when a team / manufacturer manage to place themselves in a situation like this one by ADR-Delta LMP2. Rule is 75 liters, how the heck can you end being in a position after completing the full race of being disqualified through having a 75.5 liter tank?

Not sure, word is that the team had to replace the fuel cell before the race due to some kind of leak/rupture in the original one (which was scrutineered at the start of the week and found legal), and if the new fuel cell was slightly out of spec... Team has appealed the decision, maybe they're going to put forward all their pit reports and say that they never refuelled with more than 75 liters?

Is an explanation, but really not a good one. The size of the fuel tank is set in stone, filling more or less than 75 liters will not enter the equation fact is that they allowed themselves to race with an illegal fuel tank, and there really is no excuse for placing yourself in that situation.

They were for ages arguing about what the 3 safety car rule is and how it works, then they couldn't agree on what is that rule which specifies how many meters a driver has to be from a crashed a car before you get a dnf...I watched a good 10 hours of the whole coverage, the commentators still failed to educate me on the points above...

In this situation Lapierre was instructed by the marshals to move away from the car, he aquaplaned off at that point so who's to say that nobody else will? So if the marshals instruct you to move away from the car (to a place of safety) and then the car is towed away from the crash scene to where you are, I suspect the rule is waived.

It's not F1 so the usual forum experts don't pop up to dissect every detail in minutia. There was really only one of those around here last weekend. I liked it that way!
