Can't record or watch on TV. I think what I'll do is, have both streams opened side by side and hope my laptop withstands the extra load. Odds are against it though.

What are the odds of Tasmanians winning at both Sonoma and Road America?

If Owen Kelly has a decnt car I think he is in with a chance of victory.
Marcos isn't having a stellar season, but usually turns it on for road courses. Though he hasn't been as successful at Sonoma as he has at Watkins Glen.

Sonoma tends to be a fuel run and the Glen more of a flat out race.

Confirmed.
I will be cheering him on, despite the fact he's a Canadian named Andrew. Hope he finishes well.
;)

I tried to upload that Marco Andretti I-See-What-You-Did-There .gif as a response to this, trying over 6 image hosting sites. I didn't find one that would work with .gifs, I just want you to know this is the part of the post where it would have gone.

Yeah that was good.

1. How can anyone listen to what JJ has said over the past few weeks and not come to the conclusion that he's a big crybaby?
2. Who do you think Clint Bowyer was talking about during the pace laps?

Rofl all he does is blame nascar when something goes wrong.

And I took a look at the quali/starting lineup and is he talking about Trevor Bayne & Gilliland?

All drivers are crybabies at some point, they wouldn't be human otherwise.

Bayne and Gilliland were in the race, they finished 15th and 22nd respectively.

I'm not a fan of Jimmie Johnson, but he doesn't pull dangerous blocks (hello Tony Stewart and Regan Smith) or ram other drivers at 190mph (Carl Edwards), so that accords him a higher level of respect from me. In that regard the constant whining in Nascar fandom about the #48 team\Knaus cheating comes off as sour grapes. I think he got annoyed at Kurt Busch (in Penske) once, then again who wasn't back then?

I'm curious

New NASCAR Sprint Cup Road-Course Qualifying Procedure Announced: NASCAR announced that the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will implement the group-based road course qualifying procedure used in NASCAR Nationwide and NASCAR Touring Series competition during its road-course events at Sonoma Raceway and Watkins Glen International. Under the new procedure, cars will qualify in groups instead of the traditional single-car qualifying runs held on oval race tracks. "The change will add an exciting element to road-course qualifying," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR vice president of competition. "Fans will be treated to new strategy and increased competition with several cars on track at once."
The new qualifying rules for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at road courses are as follows:
· Cars attempting to qualify will be divided into groups. The number of groups, and amount of cars in each, will depend on the number of cars that practice for the event.
· Group assignments will be based on final practice times.
· Each qualifying group will be on-track for a set period of time, determined by the Series Director.
· A car's best lap time during the group session will be the qualifying lap time of record.
· A group's time begins when the first car receives the green flag at the start/finish line.
"This is going to be a terrific new format for our NASCAR weekend," said Steve Page, president and general manager of Sonoma Raceway. "It will intensify the action, with multiple cars on the track at the same time. It's a very positive development for our fans."
"The new format of qualifying at Watkins Glen International enhances the fan experience which is our top priority," said Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen. "Qualifying on Saturday for our Cheez-ItTM 355 at The Glen is even more of a not-to-be missed aspect of a weekend of high-quality racing."
The new format will debut with the Toyota Save-Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway on June 23 and will return at Watkins Glen for the Cheez-It 355 at the Glen on August 11.(NASCAR)(4-22-2013)

I think you'll just see someone punting another guy off the track.

"Blocking? I wasn't blocking and he put me into the gravel." Is going to be more common than someone complaining about blocking.

:well: Well, at least these guys will sweat their firesuits in qualy for once.
There is no advantage in starting midgrid.

Three drivers will attempt to make their first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start on Sunday at Sonoma:
#19-Alex Kennedy,
#36-Victor Gonzalez Jr.
#52-Paulie Harraka.

The last time three or more drivers made their debut in the same race was at Martinsville Speedway on Oct. 24, 2004 when Chad Chaffin, Mario Gosselin and Travis Kvapil all made their debut.(NASCAR)(6-20-2013)

I'll admit I feel bad for Harraka though. He looked super fast in the West series a few years back. Won some races and looked to be the next best thing. But just hasn't found his form moving up.

And it seems to be a big issue for the western based drivers. Peyton Sellers, Jason Bowles, both as of late won titles and struggled to find a footing in Trucks or Nationwide. And just looking at the defending champion, who finds himself only running the East series this year.

Honestly though, unless something happens to a few other drivers, I don't see any of them making the show.

The youngsters moving up, or the three first timers? If the latter, all drivers will make the race :)

They do have a good setup in the old Red Bull program. Plus, they probably got a good deal. Pay for what for major teams would be a few race deal (they were on Tony Stewart's car his first year as a team owner for a handful of races), for the entire season.

Burger King and Dr. Pepper aren't paying anything, basically. Devine owns multipe Burger King franchises (hence the team name, BK Racing) and Burger King & Dr. Pepper allowed him to put their logos on the cars with a licensing agreement.

It was the same with Front Row racing, Taco Bell and Long John Silver's weren't paying to be on the cars, the owner had franchises. Now that Front Row is finding sponsorship semi-regularly, you don't see those colors as much as two years ago.

Great news for the roadracers/ringers, not so much for the oval boys.
"There's wet stuff all over my windscreen! Wait, it's gone. No, it's back! Now it's gone again!!"

Adding rain tires, wipers and a rear-window LED brake light to the NNS cars is a great idea, but they should go all out and add even more production-car safety features IMO.
Namely horns and blinkers.

I could see Max Papis honking his horn furiously, Turin style, to get lapped cars out of the way.
I'd also pay to see Austin Dillon drive the entire race with his right blinker on :rotfl:

IIRC there were 4 cars per group in NNS qualifying at Watkins Glen a couple of years back. Should give them enough room to run their laps without interfering with each other.

I also thik they will put the fast guys, based on practice times, in the same groups. So the group should all be going roughly the same speeds.

Lets hope it works out. Or not. For entertainment's sake.

I feel like it would be easier to add a button that would just turn the horn off for most of the NSC regulars

I don't know, it seemed like the ringers didn't fair much better last time it rained, aside from Marcos Ambrose and Ron Fellows. Hell, Jock Socks and Patrick Carpeteater both wrecked under caution in the same race once (I think it was Montreal 2010).

Yeah Casey Mears is fast. I don't remember his name coming up as being good on RCs...and Max Papis has been out of that car for a while, so it's not like his setup help made the car faster, he was never that fast in the 13.

See this is why I love NASCAR. There is no super obvious pecking order. I mean, there are probably 15 guys that could realistically win.

OK I've decided I'm going to try to name them.

  • Clint Bowyer
  • Kurt Busch
  • Kyle Busch
  • Marcos Ambrose
  • Juan Pablo Montoya
  • Jeff Gordon
  • Tony Stewart
  • Jamie Mac
  • Carl Edwards
  • Brad Keselowski
  • Jimmie Johnson
  • Jacques Villeneuve

OK I'm reaching there. The numbered list feature doesn't show me what number I'm on in the editor so I don't know how many I have--maybe 12?

I would add Kasey Kahne and Martin Truex as well. Both have had multiple good runs here, and Kahne has a victory.
