JV? Not likely from what I've seen so far.

Boris Said is racing at Sonoma after all. He is in the #32.

Ambrose is 5/1 most places I've seen. JV 60/1 and Danica 63/1.

That's why I said I'm stretching. I'm pretty sure he has the skill but I don't think the has the car, or the ability to set up the car.

I would add Kasey Kahne and Martin Truex as well. Both have had multiple good runs here, and Kahne has a victory.

Good ones. So take away JV and add Kk and Truex, that's 13.

That lack of a car just compounds his inexperience. I think he showed that in V8SC last year. Didn't have a quick car to start with, and didn't have many laps in the series before giving it a go.

The car is an updated version of Kurt Busch's setup from last year.

Anybody at lower odds than 5/1?

No he's the favorite from what I've seen.

Notables:

5/1 Ambrose
13/2 Stewart
Kurt Busch 19/2
Montoya 39/4
Kyle Busch 10/1
Truex 75/2
Fellows 60/1
JV 60/1
Danica 63/1
Stenhouse 80/1
Mears 300/1 :D

10 bucks on Mears to win 3 grand..

See this is why I love NASCAR. There is no super obvious pecking order. I mean, there are probably 15 guys that could realistically win.

OK I've decided I'm going to try to name them.

  • Clint Bowyer
  • Kurt Busch
  • Kyle Busch
  • Marcos Ambrose
  • Juan Pablo Montoya
  • Jeff Gordon
  • Tony Stewart
  • Jamie Mac
  • Carl Edwards
  • Brad Keselowski
  • Jimmie Johnson
  • Jacques Villeneuve

OK I'm reaching there. The numbered list feature doesn't show me what number I'm on in the editor so I don't know how many I have--maybe 12?

What about Happy Harvick? He has three Top 3 finishes in Cup at Sonoma and has won at Watkins Glen in a Nationwide car.

Harvick won the 2006 Watkins Glen Cup race. Easily forgettable, but it happened.

Montoya is a bit underestimated here. He's 2 for 12 on Cup road courses in his career. Yes, his team can't get out of its own way sometimes, and Montoya will probably retire with a broken steering wheel spoke on Sunday, but his odds of winning are probably still better than 3/4.

He is basically 10 to 1. I think I would take some of that action.

That's because Danica moved on to Cup :p
 The Villeman :p

Danica Patrick, other drivers not happy to see Jacque Villeneuve at Sonoma

Danica Patrick on JV
“After the things that have happened, it’s hard to have a lot of respect for somebody like that,” Patrick said. “I respect what he has done in his career, but the way he treats other drivers on the track, I can’t. That’s all there is to say.”

Clint Bowyer on JV
"Train wreck, extremely fast train, but usually ends up derailed somehow.”

JV on JV
"I've been pushed off the track a lot more than the other way around," he told the AP.
"But the perception is that I've been dirty and a dangerous driver. I know the reputation that I have and I think it's been blown out of proportion. That's life. You have to live with it.
"I'm not here to take people out. I'm not here to get anybody angry, either. So hopefully race hard but clean. I'm not here to be a hero."

It's said NNS@Road America in the thread title for a week and yet I woke up today being all like "Huh I wonder when Nationwide is doing the first road course".

Marcos is so good on road courses that he came second AND eighth! :D

Pfffft, Patrick needs to shut her piehole. She can hardly talk...at least Villeneuve is dirty, not inept.

Typo, Stewart was second last year.

As for Villeneuve, it is overblown, but the 2011 incidents were definitely stupid. Calling PSP inept is funny though, I guess running with the ringers in 2 of 3 road course races is inept to you?

NASCAR Nationwide ‏@NASCAR_NNS 19h
Qualifying order is now up on #NASCAR.com: http://nas.cr/jR8s . Five groups of eight drivers will qualify at 12:05 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Group5 to qualify with a damp track :well:
But that's good for racing :D

Wow, I really to do love that elevation on the pit-straight. Lacking in so many new courses these days.

How is Dillon's wheel in the air so much *before* he gets to the kerb?

Btw Nationwide pole time is like TWENTY seconds faster than what we used to do there in Skip Barber cars.

You could do a very long list of features in Road America that are lacking in many new courses. Or many courses full stop, actually. :)

Soft rear suspension and forces acting on the car for a long time.

BTW, well done to Allmendinger. I'm still tipping Owen Kelley for the win, though.

I think Piquet has somehow lost his mojo. A podium would be like a win for him.

So what are we watching for an hour while we wait for Cup qualy? LeMans I guess?

The funny thing is this is the 'modern' Road America with all the paved run-off. Back in my day the track ended at the kerbs. And the first year I was there, no catch fencing.

The car body is different and the Crew Chief is worse, IMO. :(

Last years he had Trent Owens [servicing Larson now] and now he has Chris Carrier that has no experience in NNS, only Trucks.

I guess Speed would be the only one that would air it, and I suppose they're busy with Le Men and Nascar crap. Maybe they'll put it on a tape delay or something if its entertaining
