Rubens has two more on account of his year in the Brawn, which Webber doesn't have a comparative year to.

How does that matter???

Barri 11

Webber 9

Simple

Webber still has plenty of chances and he is in the team with a champoionship leading car.

He might get Barri in the end.

I like you, you're funny

I thought Martin and James were funny when talking about Vettel and Webber during the quali coverage.

Aussie grit = not crumbling under pressure

Webber crumbled time after time

No, if you compare like for like they're exactly equal.

OK going with that.
Barrichello was a clear no 2 and had to give up wins with Schumi

Dont think Webber is operating under the same conditions as Barri was even though many complain he is a clear no.2 within Red Bull

How many wins did Barrichello give up to Schumacher?

And how many wins did he gain in 2002 after Schumacher won the title/helped Rubens out?

Stick to bikes dude. You don't survive in F1 for 12 years if you're not a class driver. Your comments are not only disrespectful but also very ignorant.

btw "Aussie Grit" in Webber's terms is a euphamism for putting his nose down arse up and working as hard as he can.

Hearing the commentators suggesting that Vettel has to beat Kimi as a teamate to dispell the doubt about his true ability. Beating Mark for 3 years doesn't seem to cut it according to Brundle.

Tier 2

Your logic amuses me. They want Kimi in there to clarify just how good Webber and Vettel are, they're acknowledging the doubt because of their career paths, and then you use that argument and assign Webber a tier in the same post. Good stuff.

Exactly.

Grit in it's true sense simply means having passion, perseverance & resilience. Hard to fault Mark in any of those areas. He worked his guts out to achieve his dream of racing in F1.

A lot of Northern Hemispherers don't understand how difficult it is to travel from Australia to Europe for motorsport and make it to the top. Most of the top drivers in F1 have had major backing most of their career and used to living where they race. While Mark had to struggle with the small backing he had from Oz and prove he had what it takes on foreign soil. Its the reason why we rarely see Australians on the grid these days. Its a monumental leap.

I find it amusing that you think they were talking about Webber. It was all about Vettel having Kimi as a teamate to find out how good Seb really is. Beating Mark doesn't really cut it for Martin.

The guy can't handle pressure. Simple!!!!!!

Tier 1 guys can.

Just ask Helmut ;)

I find that hard to believe.

It is wrong. Bonuses is about half their salary or more at Red Bull.

Porsche are not stupid, they don't need to pay 10m euro for a driver to compete in about 6 WEC races and some testing. That's silly.

They could hire a bunch of ex F1 drivers for peanuts (Bruno Senna I saw racing for Aston Martin GTE team, Christian Klien has no regular drive...)! Why waste the money?

Webber brings publicity to Porche and WEC, we wouldn't be talking about it otherwise. That's why he will be paid the big bucks.

And it would be money well spent if only it gets across the message that the name of the famous car manufacturer is Porsche and not "Porche" ;)

I'd be willing to bet most locals here still pronounce it "Porsh" and not "Porsha" as well.

Not quite sure how Webber adds positive publicity to Porsche, or that they even need it from him. It's not like he's a world champion, or a top driver at his peak. I suppose you could argue he'll be the quickest ex-F1 driver in endurance racing next year. That's not exactly headline material after the initial buzz of the signing.

Good for him though. He lasted years longer in a great car than he should have, having been beaten badly by his teammate, and landed on his feet with an interesting new job.

Both would be wrong. Porsch-eh is closer to the German pronunciation.

Completely missing the idea of phonetics.

Yes you are. The proper pronunciation of the last syllable is like an eh, as in the German word Danke. The way you wrote it sounds like the girl's name Portia.

Looks like Webber's fans could learn some basic German to live on good terms with his new employer.

For all you pedants that maintain Porshe should be pronounced with and "er" sound on the end - presumably you also pull people up for not saying bay-umm-vay instead of bee-emm-doubleyou?

Hehe, no. Because that's not a word. I do take your point about pedantry though. Porsche is a hard word for English speakers to pronounce. Apologies for any offence. It wouldn't have surfaced if Webber had just stayed in F1 :).

I thought I'd read before that the 'sh' sound is at the end of the first syllable as well as the start of the second - so its something like Porsh-sheh rather than Por-sheh. Either way its awkward to put the fine points of pronounciation of another language into the middle of an English sentence, even if it is a name.

If they're Australian, we've bastardised the English language, what we can do to a foreign language is boundless :)

Honestly good riddance. He has hogged the best seat in the sport and made it too easy for Vettel for too long.

I must say I have seen some posts on another forum, taking the hiss out of the Chermuns regarding the "Mercedes" Supercar, that makes me look forward to a lot more of the same.

Bring on '14 I say :) :)
