I admit it im struggling here.

I am trying to find out more about Ken Miles participation in the Welsh Light car Trails in 1947. Did "The Light Car" magazine have a club which ran trials etc?
Miles lived in Sutton Coldfield at the time so which Light Car club ran this event? Anybody please? Paul

Possibly the Hagley & District LCC. Their Welsh 12 Hour Trial was scheduled for June 1st 1947, but I don't have a report of it. See Motor Sport June 1947, page 167.

The only other Welsh Trial I can see scheduled was the Bugatti OC's, but that was cancelled due to the withdrawal of "basic".

I only have a limited number of The Light Car from the 1947 & 48 period. My best description of this title is along the formula of its contempories, The Autocar and The Motor. The difference being TLC was a monthly and A5 in format, with not as much advertising as the 2 weeklies. Gregor Grant covered the motor sporting side of things in TLC.

The indexing I have done on the issues I have, to be honest was more focussed upon snippets on Cooper racing car activities. But in the Feb 48 issue there's a 2 page feature on The Wharton Special - that being Ken Wharton's Austin seven-based, Ford-powered trials car. Some reference is made to Motor Club's and the odd specific event, but possibly the most poignant comment was how since building the car in 1946 he'd competed in 42 events up to the end of November 1947! Now Ken Wharton isn't who you're chasing, but maybe in many of those 42 events Wharton and Miles crossed paths. Hence by sourcing Wharton information, you might find Miles connections too.

I'm happy to scan this piece if you think it might help and you provide an email address.

Stephen
