Kova isn't amazing, but I certainly would rather have Kova on the grid than VDG. Never rated VDG, never will unless he improves his performances in a dramatic way.

Exactly, who is VGD, at least we know Kova!

The guy is very media friendly and is good at presenting himself, which I think is why people seem to overrate him. Very average driver

He is one of those Barichellos, Webbers, Massas, he is not cut out to be in the top team but he does really well in a lower pressure environment. Those who say that he got beaten by Petrov have no clue, he started to get outdone by Petrov when he lost his motivation... after he saw that Caterham management were not interested in his services as a driver for 2013. Before this point, he was very solid.

I must say, I absolutely loathe what I call the "Hamilton/Vettel Effect": wherein a rookie must win in his debut season or do extraordinarily well to have a future in F1. Regardless of car.

There was a time, when drivers would come in as rookies to the bottom teams, hone their skills, work their way upwards, fight for the better seats, fighting and fighting and EARNING places higher up on the grid, not having them handed to them on a silver platter...

Yoser, there really is a first for everything - I agree with Karne. It is like Lewis and Sebastian made the whole world of F1 go bonkers or something. They are the exception, not the rule.

ps. been wondering where you've been since that news broke yesterday - looks like we might be on the same side in the future as I am a HUMUNGOUS Porsche fan.

And delighted to see Kovalainen back on the grid again!

You'd have to say that Kova has a greater chance of actually getting that Caterham into the points than Van der Guarde so I wouldn't be surprised if this happens.

Don't believe it, Giedo is improving lately but the biggest problem would be Giedo's father in law who could buy caterham probably from the loose change in his pocket.

Judging by some posts here it seems the goat is VdG. So I say let's watch the goat.

My personal opinion is that this is simply a ploy to get money on time or in advance. The team has run Trulli while waiting for Petrov, so the bluff may go a bit further.

Massa has had many shots and still making a mess out of those

In 2008 mclaren and ferrari were similar and massa scored almost double the points of kova

on the upside for next year they could go for rojo if louts release him id say that's a good possibility as Im sure ej says he is on a 3 race deal rolling contract

it just means they need to pay a bit more but tbh its not that much more as max only brings about 250k and it may be a scoop for the team if he can screw the nut

Do you mean Max Chilton, who droves for Marussia, and brings quite a bit more than 250k?

Kovalainen was horribly unlucky in 2008, with an exception of Hungary where he had good luck.

Australia: Was battling for a victory with Hamilton, had later second stop but SC screwed him.
Spain: He was leading due to others' pit stops before wheel rim failure that sent him into the wall.
Turkey: Clipped at the start and had to pit due to puncture.
Monaco: Car stalled at the beginning of the warm-up lap (qualified 4th)
Canada: Had to queue behind Hamilton in pit stops due to SC
Japan: Car failed when he was battling for a win with Alonso and Kubica.
China: Tyre failure, lost few points.

In 2009 he competed well with Hamilton as long as McLaren was really bad car. But when the team managed to turn it around, Kovalainen was nowhere (that was clearly his weakest period of driving in F1)

Mika Salo said he doesn't want to predict much but he talked a lot before qualifying with Heikki and he got the feeling something will happend very soon. Also Tony Fernandez did hint about Heikki's seat already at monaco.

Good news if true.
Van de Garde hasn't been terrible but was very lucky to have the seat in the first place.

Hard to ignore the irony of a poster with Felipe Massa in has avatar stating that Kova has had his chance. We are talking about a Caterham seat here, Massa has been a complete waste of a top seat fpr the last 3 years.
