I've tired of Massa two years ago, but it's becoming apparent that to do something useful with the current Ferrari car you need not just a better driver than him but one who is in fact equally as good as Alonso (and Webber, whom I've always liked, is certainly nowhere near, for instance), which is a bit of a big ask. He needs to go, but so should the people responsible for the car (which is not indirectly responsible for his performances)

Just e-mail that to them.

Dear sirs, Massa has had over a hundred crap races which I suspect you have not noticed.
Please, reevalute his status ammong the team.

I did, got a reply immediately (to my big surprise) :

Dear sir, this "Massa", is that the other driver we have?
I will ask around.

Thanks for your nice letter
Luca

I actually think he did a better job than Alonso today. Should have finished on the podium.

better job? he had brilliant start, but after his tyre blew (and certainly damaged the car), there was nothing that put him picture except for passing Sutil, that too on fresher tyres, SC helped him very mcuh

did you watch the race. after massa had tyre blow he was last, and yes it was good luck with safety car but he overtook most of the cars from 22nd to 6th on the track.it proves even though he has made mistakes in quali he still has lots of confidence in the races and in overtaking. and i really want to see his start onboard.

SC helped a lot of other drivers, it's not like he jumped people in the pits..he actually overtook most on track...with a damaged car.

Felipe was a stand out driver today. I would rank him as high as Lewis, Fernando, Mark, Paul and Nico. All standout drives.

massa seems to be out of it

“Let’s see what happens,” Massa told the Italian broadcaster Rai on Sunday.

“Yes, this race was important for my future, but it doesn’t mean that my only future can be (wearing) red.”

He is also quoted by O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper: “He (Montezemolo) will not announce anything without talking to me, for sure.

“I love Ferrari. But the other teams also know what I can do.”

Thank god, Massa has been wasting one of the most coveted seats in F1 for way too long.

Since he joined F1, in fact.

Whats interesting here is that Massa seems to be considering other teams, rather than what he said before about not taking a step back.

He does the job if Ferrari want to be a 1 driver team that can compete for the WDC but have no shot at the WCC.

Let's be honest, how many fans/team members would be disappointed if Alonso had won the WDC last year, but RBR took the WCC? Not many I suspect.

but the thing is, is there any 'competitive' seats available that will pay him good as that of ferrari (10+ mil), according to leo turini, he might go stateside

It would be great to see a Ferrari driver win the WDC because that's where the glory is.

But plenty of proper Ferrari fans would be disappointed to see Red Bull win the WCC still and I'm damn sure the team would be, too.  Its perfectly possible to be happy about one thing and not happy about the other.

You make a valid point, and I think you're right that a lot of fans are more disposed to celebrate a WDC than a WCC.

However, last year is also an excellent example of how these things are not black and white. For example: Webber finished in front of Alonso multiple times, but Massa only finished in front of Vettel in Brazil. That alone changed the course of the WDC-battle.

Like I said, Massa would most likely be looking at a step back, which would also likely include a paycut.  I'm sure he knows this more than anyone.

Going to IndyCar might be as difficult as it would be finding an F1 ride.  IndyCar seats tend to require you bring sponsorship with you.  At least in F1, there are teams that are willing to hire purely based on merit.

ok then, let's make an educated guessing game then (i'll bold the teams that have a seat for Massa )

where could felipe go if dropped by ferrari (in Formula 1 of course ;) )

1. mclaren - no, they are set with their current drivers ATM

2. RBR - no chance in hell

3. Ferrari - mathematically possible, till kimi and alonso confirms their commitment with the team

4. Mercedes - no, they are set.

5. LotusF1 -  there is a possiblity, but the most likely candidate is Nico Hulkenberg, Grosjen is secured IMO

6. Force India - Paul di resta is secured, adrian sutil ... IDK, but still a possibility

7. SauberF1 - Sirotkin is secured, the second seat is wide open, if sponsors agree, Esteban will stay, hulk is out (Blick) massa's best chance

8. STR - no, they have their own program.

9. WilliamsF1 - unless Maldonado go to lotus with PDVSA sponsorship, i don't see any change in lineup.

10. CaterhamF1 - not likely, they'll continue with the current pair, heikki has a more chance of ousting GVdG than massa though

11 . MarussiaF1 - no chance although both seats are available, but not up to Massa's calibre IMO.

feel free to make add your comment on this.

out side of F1 the possible options are (IMO)

1. NASCAR (trucks/nationwide)

2. INDYCAR

3. Brazilian Stock car racing

4. as a commentator alongside Rubens barichello

I think Rubens could do a better job than Massa right now.

I'd also add DTM to the possible options. He did an interview a few months back, saying he'd prefer to race in a series like DTM than WEC.

I can't really see why a team like Sauber would consider Massa really given that his form is so poor at present and he seems to need nannying through every race. If they have the budget to hire on merit they are going to want an enthusiastic driver wanting to advance (like bringing back Kamui Kobayashi), not a has-been.

I wouldn't expect a ride in any of the US series to be particularly easy to secure - ex-F1 drivers have never been overly successful there and he hardly carries any name value anymore. Don't forget that JPM had previously raced for Chip Ganassi before getting offered the NASCAR drive. DTM is completely out of the question in my view - I cannot see any of the marques wanting to take a risk and Massa has no links to any of the three firms at present.

I expect if he stays in European racing he will drive for AF Corse, perhaps in a series like the Blancpain if he doesn't want to join the WEC.

I can't see Massa considering IndyCar, he's had his lucky moment already and I can't see him wanting to push his luck on the ovals.

That is exactly the point. Felipe was in no meaningful way aiding FA in his campaign. Not last season nor two previous ones.

I think the only way FM could keep his seat would be like how Johnny English got to be a field agent - EVERYONE else was unable to attend (in the movie every agent was killed in an explosion) :-)

This year I am pretty sure Massa was told he needed to perform to a certain level, which he did not even come close to.  Please lets not debate levels, it is just too poor a performance to even discuss.

I have no doubts in my mind he is out.  Sadly it is the right decision for SF even though I truly respect the team's willingness to give him another chance in 2013.  Massa did a lot for the team in the past and that was a nice way to thank him.  Technically he could have been replaced last year.  Sorry Massa we love you and you almost gave us fans a WDC and lots of great driving and we will remember you !!!!
