Sure  but many times it has also been Kimi dragging the car over the finishline even if it wouldn't ave supposed to. So it's thanks to both of them

Not too hard when at least 10 of the 18 places get points (disregarding Marussia and Caterham). Point tallies or streaks say much less now.

I'd say if Kimi can get 10 more point scoring finishes, he will 'equal' Schumi's record considering 10 drivers get points nowadays.

With two 8th, two 9th and two 10th place. Just wow. That really hurts Schumacher's reputation who has that record with no worse than 4th place.

Well, competition was different at those days anyways, the grid is way closer nowadays.

come on, it's just some numbers...it doesn't hurt anything. looking back 20 years from now I doubt this record will mean much in a schumacher vs raikkonen legacy

Yeah, cause the amount of top teams in schumis years was comparable to these years. Also back then you didnt have these weird tyres.

A lot of people compare Kimi's streak to Michael's, but I think it's not a fair comparison. Yes, Kimi has had quite a few bad results, but today's F1 (read Pirelli era) is completely different than the dominant 2001-2002 seasons that Ferrari had. Kimi has shown tremendous racecraft, strategy and circuit IQ, and all of this in 2nd-3rd best car only. Michael's streak will be remembered purely for the consistently of his podium finishes. Something like that will never be replicated again imo. The last time someone managed to complete an entire season finishing on the podium at every race was Jorge Lorenzo in MotoGP. It shows how difficult an exploit this is.

With the best and most reliable car out there in a grid where 1 or 2 other teams could challenge him even if he ran into trouble.

Not comparable.

Obviously Räikkönen has also been fortunate to not have race ending car problems, but he has done a very consistent job.

Sure, Lotus deserve praise as well, but its still incredibly impressive for a driver to go that long placing in the top 10.

Regardless of Michael's record run, this is surely impressive on its own? On both the part of Lotus and Kimi? I do not believe he is the quickest driver on the grid at the moment, but certainly has impressive racecraft to avoid incidents and that pays lots of points over a season.

great stat, I still have in my mind the Kimi from the Mclaren days and his engines failures all the time,

but still, top 10 is inside the points, when in the past it was 8, and 6...

also cars are rarely failing like the use to... still, Kimi has been pretty safe and consistent with his driving since his return, that's for sure.

Lotus/Raikkonen set the record. If the car doesn't finish you don't score points. Ask Vettel.

Its a good record to secure, especially in todays F1 where the competition is tighter than its ever been, and coming over 2 season where 6 and 5 x WDC's were or are competing for the places.

It shows fantastic determination and consistency from Kimi, and great reliability from Lotus and it'll be interesting to see just how many consecutive points scoring places he can go on to achieve, I get the feeling it will go on for a while yet.

Ultimately though even though i guess it does mean something to Kimi, judging by the maniacal last laps dash in Monaco, when asked on Sky just whether getting that record is any consolation for losing valuable points today the answer was typically short and sweet.

"No"

It's amazing achievement from Lotus/Kimi. Back in McLaren/Ferrari days nobody could have ever imaginated that Kimi would be able to do this record with the myth about him being the car breaker and very unlucky driver...but now this proofs those claims wrong, congratulations Lotus and Kimi for making incredible record and go make it much longer!

What also adds to the significance of course is that this was achieved following a 2 year break from the sport, ad whilst i've absolutely no wish to discuss Kimis Ferrari years the oft repeated mantra when he began that break was "Unmotivated", I think this points streak shows that at least that particular mantra shouldn't be chanted any longer, if it ever did apply, it's certainly not applicable now, its a great run, long may it continue :)

Great achievement by Kimi, but after today's race I bet he doesn't care about it even a little bit. Maybe some time later he'll care, I think today he just wants to punch his team in the face.

He said himself in an interview that it basically doesn't matter, and I agree. Not because of the fact you can get points down to 10th, but because it's no good finishing 10th in every race and creating a record if you don't achieve anything at the end of it. He may have broken the record, but he hasn't actually achieved anything. I'm 100% certain he'd VERY happily dump the record for more race wins and the title. The record will be nothing more than 'meh' to him, at best. In reality, it makes diddly squat (to put it politely).

Yeah, he's only 3rd in the WDC for second year in a row with almost 4x as many points as his teammate
