No thread yet (unless this crosses with someone else opening one :))

"Emlyn Hughes ‏@radarguruf1 37m
#F1 Friday #Nurburgring: Dry start with some sunny spells. Becoming cloudy with a chance of drizzle / showers this afternoon. Max temp 20c."

Lots of interesting things to watch today!

@ESPNF1 We're half an hour away from FP1 here at the Nurburgring and it's an overcast start to the day. No rain though!

  • Can Vettel finally win at his home ground?
  • RBR vs Merc for pole?
  • Can Ferrari recover?
  • Will the tyre changes affect the cars?
  • Possible drivers boycott if a tyre blows up now?

Jon Noble @NobleF1
The FIA has imposed minimum tyre pressure and maximum camber settings for German GP - plus banned tyre swapping.

Some teams wont like having to run these pressures.

How on earth are they going to check those pressures during qualifications and the race ?

Guaranteed at least one team will try and flunk the tyre regs and will dispute the wording of it. Anyway, anyone know if they have any extra tyres?

Pretty sure the teams have tyre pressure sensors that download details to the pits in real time, which is why some teams can warn drivers of slow punctures.

Would be fun to see a tyre failure in the first 30min, just to see the GPDA backtracking.

Yeah, I'm not wishing for a tyre failure, but would be really interesting to see what happens should the GPDA's hand be forced

So Alonso's 1 reliability problem all year will cost him the 30 minutes in FP1 in which no-one goes out to set a time!

I'm pretty sure it already cost him a podium at Bahrain.

"Di Resta radio "Box Paul" (Di Resta questions call) "Box Paul, we have no telemetry. Don't argue with everything i say"

"But PdiR says, "I'm not arguing with everything you say""

Seems a bit tense between Di Resta and his engineer, sometimes I do detect that when we hear his engineer's voice

Guess that's not what he meant when he said he was building his own reputation.

To be fair to Di Resta, the engineer should tell him why he has to box the first time at that unusual time.

Seriously - are these commentators going to speak about tyres for 1.5 hours? I will give them 5 minutes more and then they are being replaced with music.

How come the lap times from Silverstone to the Nurburgring are very similar yet the race is 8 laps longer?

Shorter track with slower average speed through lap?

It's about average speed that is slower on Silverstone. The determining factor is the race distance, which is about the same here and on Silverstone.

No, now they're speaking about how Webber has scored the same amount of points in the last four races as his teammate and how he now has to start to lead Vettel "a bit more".

They look rapid. Was it always meant to be mediums and softs at this race I thought it was supposed to be hards and softs.

Getting quicker too, Rosberg just put in a 29.9 first sector. Put that in to context, best first sector in 2011 qualifying was 29.7

It was Hamilton who did the 29.9 first sector.

To say people were burrying his carreer when he signed for Merc... Now he must be laughing!
Anyway I'm pleased that car is fast and does not seem to suffer much from tyre deg. This must grant us a hell of a 2nd half of season... :smoking:
