Lewis lap was wild.... what those guys are doing at such speeds is incredible.

It seems the heat always brings the cars closer to each other.... with that said, any of the top four teams could win tmrw. Lotus n Fer should be quick n LH might surprise with new found race pace, he is always quick here though im not sure how quick the car actually is. He was battling it throughout his pole lap, brilliant stuff.

Interesting qualifying. First off, BIG UPS TO LEWIS!   He was completely frustrated and lost on his set up, but he and the team kept working at it, and the result was POLE!!

Excellent qualifying by the RB boys, but can't help thinking they didn't squeeze absolutely everything out of it. Had picked Vettel for pole based on dominant FP3, but I guess track temps may have bit him. :well:

Solid effort by Lotus, as well, but I really think Ferrari have the best strategy.

Starting on Primes in P7 and P8. If they do their normal quick starts and make up a couple places, then wait for Hamilton to back up the field as his tires go off, then go deep. They were only .3 down to Vettel's quickest time on Softs, so I think the Scuderia are in the pound seat. I see them doing Med, Med, then a short Soft stint, and that looks like a WINNER!

Massa has looked quicker all weekend, so we'll see if he crosses the line first, or if Alonso can jump him. Have COURAGE, Ferrari Fans!

Its so nice watching F1 on a circuit with proper grass, gravel and hills!

Looking forward to tomorrow - I think the lead battle could be titanic once all the strategies converge, but sadly I think Ferrari might have played a blinder.

Hamilton has been struggling bigtime and he got it done, Rosberg should have put in a better time...

Why should Rosberg have had a better time?

GETT INNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bloody hell that was exciting, the closest Q3 of the year? Mighty mighty lap given he went faster in the second sector as well! What a turn around from the FP session as well and I just can't explain the joy and relief.

Fanboy mode: Off.

Is it allowed to run wide at the first corner here? Thought Vettel had both tyres outside of the white line at some point, or am I mistaken.

If so, the lap will be discarded?

Kimi did the same think, you are mistaken. Also there were many other drivers driving the same line in T1.

To say Alonso is not in the championship fight is just plain stupid. Sorry/

Button said the same thing early last year and we know how that turned out. You can never, ever, ever count Alonso out, so long as he has 4 wheels.

I feel like many guys need some perspective:

Mercedes has won 6 poles out of 9 so far, 6 out of the last 7 events. At this point is hard to understand why ppl would be even slightly surprised, regardless of what happens in free practice sessions, which were never representative of anything.

What a terrible way to commemorate 600 Grand Prix' for Williams. Though I have no particular interest in the team itself, for the sake of their history in F1 I hope they do better tomorrow.

Not sure what Ferrari is up to. :stoned: We'll see tomorrow how it pans out, though there's always significant risks in thinking your plan is more clever than that of all the others. Who knows, though.

Also, it turns out it only took two wins for Mercedes to become arrogant enough to clumsily miss out on the top 10 qualifying. Bit of a pointless waste of a good qualifying position for Rosberg.

Yes I agree, but it is quite funny that in this year Vettel has 3 poles,Hamilton the same, and also Rosberg. They are all really the 1 lap specialist, which is really good to see...

Yes of course. Its got nothing to do withe fact they have the fastest 1 lap cars. Kimi and Alonso are chumps and so are the likes of Hulkenberg and Maldonado

The lap record is taken from the race, qualifying sessions aren't counted.

That is still the lap record. It must be beaten in the race.

Ferrari should have splitted the strategy by at least sending Massa with options for all-out lap. He seemed to be fast this weekend.

If we are talking about fairness and being deserving of a German race win, a certain Finn is well above the rest! ;)

That would have demoted Alonso one position. Errr....

Looking good for Kimi and Seb. I don't trust Mercedes race pace this time. The pole was not impressive enough.

Since when you need an impressive pole to have race pace?
I guess vettel had really an impressive qualy to give him 2nd place and that will translate in an impressive race pace...

I wish people would get over the idea of "deserving" wins. Racing is not like the rest of life. You deserve exactly what you get, whatever you get. 1st, 5th, last, crashed, it doesn't matter. You are what the results say you are. It's not like real life where you work really hard and deserve a promotion. You have to let so much bullshit slide if you start talking about how one driver deserves the win and another doesn't. And why is it only ever Hamilton/Vettel/Raikkonen and Ferrari/Red Bull/McLaren that deserve these things? I'm pretty sure Caterham and Marussia are trying just as hard. I'm pretty sure Maldonado and Vergne aren't going into the race hoping to be 14th. As a race driver you do what you can to win and the chips fall where they fall.

What's the problem?
It was my guess that today Mercedes is not competitive enough to win the race.
They have been always less competitive in the race than qualifying. Sometimes more sometimes less.

The point is you can't look at qualy for that... Oh look at Ferrari's qualy and then race pace...
