Does anyone know if the tyres in the current Condemasters F1 games wear out in the same way as in real F1? It's not enough to say it 'seems realistic' because that's just guesswork. I'd be interested if anyone knows for certain.

No chance. And as much as i have tried to defend CM over their F1 franchise i have to say it is most definitely not a sim! Its still good fun every now and then but its not even remotely a "sim".

Right, force of habit. Replace 'sim' with 'game'

I think the tire wear in F2012 is not bad though. Maybe not realistic in how they wear, but the tires (at least the red super soft) drop off pretty quickly. I usually run only 1-2 laps in Q3 (if my Force India makes it), and my tires still struggle to make it to the pit stop in a 25% race in career mode. I do drive pretty aggressively though.

RFactor, iRacing and LFS have pretty comprehensive tyre temperature and wear models but work in different ways. Let's face it though, when people who make the damn things don't know what is going on what chance does someone trying to simulate it?

Thanks for the replies. It's not a surprise that the tyre wear isn't realistic for the reasons stated above, but I reckon neither the official game nor free mods would be very popular if players had to contend with that level of realism.

Perhaps a late response, but never the less: several f1 mods for rFactor have tyre degradation... like the F1 1991 mod... the problem is, only the players car seems to be affected, not the AI. At a certain moment I had a trick (which i forgot) which showed which tyres the AI used... And if I had tyre wear 'on', I had to use the hardest tyres available for even half races... and the AI could run quali tyres for a full race...

Not very honest...

Also found the same. What helps is putting fuel use to 4x for instance. You'll force the AI to stop much more often.

To be honest: I switchted the tyre-simulation 'off' and raced with the same tyres as the AI... Then, at around 95 percent ability, I had good fun...
