Quick Nic in the Xjr14 was awesome. I think the fastest lap he did was the first flyer after the pit stop.

Love the event but numbers of public seemed down to me. But then again £40+ to get in puts off the casual attendee. I saw £6.80 for a pork roll too! Glad I packed my own lunch.

But worth every penny just to see the BT44 alone.....drools

Sorry but that is nonsense; I bought two tickets (one and a BOGOF )back in December. This got me car club entry - we had a stand near Village and cost me £85- just over 40 quid a ticket . For this I got three days of track action by over a thousand cars .Racing was 9am till late .Access all areas policy to two paddocks and endless stuff to look at. And you think the price should be even less ? Compare to a typical BTCC crashfest meeting -my local circuit charged twenty odd quid for one day- of droning spec formula saloons and pathetically small and dull support races.My local hillclimb charges a tenner and dragstrip twelve quid and whilst both are fun days out Silverstone's thirteen odd quid a day is the bargain and the highlight of my season.

For not much more than the price of a cinema ticket per day I really do think the Classic is brilliant value for money.

Due to lots of things all happening at once we couldn't be sure on which day or days we'd be able to go, if we could go at all. It wasn't until a fortnight ago that we knew it would have to be Saturday; three tickets for one day - £163.20. The most irritating part was that the nominal cost was £50 each and could only be booked in advance - why then was there a £1.50 booking fee for each ticket, and also an administration charge? £50 each rapidly became more than £54 each with no alternative way of buying the tickets.

Agree, if you are in a car club that is by far the best value. Full price it does look a little expensive.

Dad noticed that there weren't any ticket promotions in the Telegraph or anywhere he reads this year. This was the first year that we paid full price.

I am inclined to agree with John: without the rain problems, Saturday would have had thirteen races, several of which were longer-format ones. This is far more than is on offer at the Revival, or at most historic meets.

The Classic has always been the best attended event Silverstone has, other than the other one they pay out so much for...surely you understand

I remember Scarab's Grand Prix car had a Scarab engine and since the timekeepers' results have it as a "Scarab Offenhauser", it made it seem as if it were an Indanapolis job . . .

I strolled round on Friday-it was OK but there did seem to be fewer stands than at previous Classics.Location was fine and doubtless there was plenty of stuff to buy if one is in the market , especially for that well known oxymoron (with few exceptions ) 'motoring art'.Old photo prints apart(which I love ) I do find most this stuff pretty ghastly but there is obviously a big market for endless moody shots of XK120s and wistful looking girls. Lots of Steve McQueen pornography too- not my thing at all !

On the subject of the cost of admission when I last went (several years back) I bought my ticket at the Stoneleigh show in February. The cost was minimal compared to the on-the-day price. However I have to admit the admission prices this year seem extravagant to say the least.

Agreed Ted, however the 400% rise in simple open-space stand prices (£220 to over £900) in the teeth of a recession seemed out of touch with reality. The £500+ ready-built marquees at 10 foot square were too small for many of us.

I know what you mean David, the background of the new pit complex (...well almost any part of the revamped circuit really) looks at odds with almost anything that isn't very 'modern'. Goodwood it isn't . But then Goodwood hasn't had Bernie & co. to reckon with...

Pretty much par for the course in my experience at Silverstone. It is probably 7 or 8 years since I last took a trade stand anywhere but it seems as though they are as much out of touch with reality as ever.

Back to the good old days of the Coys Festival the first couple of years I was there it cost £85 for a 25 sq. metre space, suddenly, out of the blue, this increased to around £1,500! In the last year I was doing external events they wanted, I think, £2,000 each for the Historic Festival (not a patch on Coys and much different to today's event) and the WSC race. We ended up paying a combined price of £500 for both events. Are they still open to negotiation when they realise that yet again they have shot themselves in the foot with their pricing policy?

I had hoped to take a stand again at some events this year. I looked at Goodwood but again the pricing seemed out of touch with what is possible. I think, judging by the trade stands the year before last, I could do well at the Revival, sadly various ongoing family health problems have taken the decision out of my hands.
