Well, it's been a pretty good week for NASCAR. NBC made it rain by doling out a 10 year, 4.4 billion dollar contract to gain NASCAR TV rights for basically every series except for the Trucks. Then, the CWTS debuted at Eldora and put on a hell of a show on dirt, drawing enough ratings to make it the 10th most watch Truck race ever (and the most watched non-restrictor plate ever) and drew the highest cable rating for sports for the day. Norm Benning was trending on Twitter. NORM 'GODDAMN' BENNING!! Be sure to check that out if you haven't yet.

Which brings us to NW and Sprint Cup at Indy, when I get to see IndyCar purists flood my Twitter feed about rednecks tainting sacred ground.

Bah, whatevs. It's cool, NASCAR hasn't been good at Indy, recently. The Gen 6 looks nice, but it hasn't done much in terms of racing on big tracks (except for that barn-burner at California and what was a pretty decent race at Michigan). As for Nationwide. . . God, I miss LORP. That was a good track!

For once, it won't be scorcher out there, it will a nice 74 and 77 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Here the weekend schedule:

Thursday, July 25
9:00 pm NSCS Haulers Enter

Friday, July 26

6:30 am NSCS Garage Opens
8:30 am 10:00 am NNS Practice
10:30 am 11:25 pm NNS Final Practice

10:35 am NSCS Rookie & Spotter Meetings, Drawing for Qualifying Order
11:35 am 1:00 pm NSCS Practice
3:00 pm NSCS Garage Closes

Saturday, July 27
7:30 am NSCS Garage Opens
9:00 - 11:00 am NSCS Final Practice
12:05 pm NNS Qualifying
2:10 pm NSCS Qualifying

4:00 pm NNS Drivers Introductions
4:30 pm NNS Race
5:00 pm NSCS Garage Closes

Sunday, July 28
7:00 am NSCS Garage Opens
9:15 - 10:30 am Indianapolis Motor Speedway Track Walk
11:00 am NSCS Driver / Crew Chief Meeting
12:30 pm NSCS Driver Introductions
1:00 pm NSCS Race

Also:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NELSINHO PIQUET!

Looks like his dad will be in attendance for the Nationwide race. . .ouch. Good luck.

(It should be noted that Kurt Busch was at that dinner and took that picture. I bet Kurt and Piquet Sr. would be an interesting conversation to listen in on. )

Damn, I'd like to be there to talk to Nelson Sr.

Here's the real question, who would finish higher if he drove the NNS race? Him or Nelsinho?

nascar.com finally shows some compassion and includes clickable links with its schedules to its leaderboard/timing graphics. This is a huge step towards making their site usable.

Grand-Am on the Indy F1 track, 3hr race. And no, there's no JPM in it before you ask, Ganassi's 02 is Joey Hand/Tony Kanaan. There's a Rubens in this race though...

In all my years of being a racing fan, Piquet Sr. is hands down my favorite.

Don't think he would do well in the NNS race though. I bet his legs hurt just seeing the brickyard.

People still go there? I gave up on that garbage pile of a site after a week of its relaunch. Figured everyone else did the same and it was now just an empty domain name. At this rate, maybe their site will be halfway decent by 2015.

Reporting in on site at Indy. Have tickets for Sunday, sitting above the pit entrance so I can see JPM speeding in his last stop when leading ...;)

Planning to see Nationwide tomorrow. Should I throw something at someone?

^Any of the Cup guys will suffice. Try to aim in front of the cars so that hopefully it'll be ran over and screw something up in the car.

Any bets on how he's going to **** it up this time? My guess is that he's going to pee in the car, and short out the car's electrics on lap 150 while leading.

30 minutes to the Kyle Show.....oops I mean the Nationwide race.

Piquet Jr. actually qualified in 8th. Daddy has been giving him that eagle stare and most likely told Nelsinho it is back to Brazil if he doesn't up his pace a little.

Seriously? During qualy or something?

Also, true about the Kyle show. Is there any live timing available? This is one of those tracks where timing and scoring helps you understand the pace better, like F1.

Pretty boring race till around 50 to go. When Hornish went out with engine trouble, it shook up the points a lot and gave the race a bit of excitement. And then the final laps pushed the excitement level up to 11. Some really great racing for the win. And it was hard to tell but if you noticed coming to the checkers, Larson and Pastrana had a great drag race for 10th. Looked like Pastrana got him by inches.
