Nothing to get excited about here. If Ferrari have had permission then what is there to complain about. I want to know why the other teams like McLaren etc are not doing the same, but you have to assume they feel there's nothing to gain for whatever reason.

To be fair, given everything that has happened between the FIA and Ferrari over the years its a perfectly legitimate suspicion for anyone to have.

Legitimate?, maybe some years ago, not now, there are teams that probably are higher in FIA's christmas present list. Ferrari is always evil, despite they are nothing but Bambi this days but I guess they can't shake off the stigma.

Are you serious? Off throttle blowing can easily be turned off and push/pull rod behaviour might not be identical, but behaviour can certainly be be adjusted and differences calculated.
I never said the car could be made identical.

Pull rod makes a difference aerodynamically (at least according to Tombazis). It effects airflow over the sidepods and to the rear of the car.

It is reasonable to believe that Ferrari are indeed working on its WT correlation problems. Magny Cours is about 400 km closer to Cologne than home base, has an airfield, and the car has a season's worth of aquired data for benchmarking. Without race tires supplied, I cannot imagine any fruitful development work carried out, and even then only on suspension/tire maangement. If they have problems tweaking their current car for the different shape/aero characteristics of the 2012 construction because WT correlation problems, it is logical to test anyway you can, and the demo tires should be the same in shape and build.

Nope you don't, not one that was so well earned.

Mind you, Germany 2010 and even if you like Alonso DRS non punishment in Hungary this weekend leave your Bambi argument looking a little shaky in my opinion.

Its all a little of topic though. They aint doing anything wrong with this test in my book.

Looking at the last few years, and at this season as well, Ferrari have continuous problems with their in-season development. It is clear that something in the chain: car data – new idea – simulation – scale fabrication – wind tunnel – parts fabrication – track performance does not work right. The wind tunnel is blamed most of the time, but we see that even working with two different tunnels things go no better.
It is, therefore crucial for them to determine the weak point(s), find the reason(s) and to fix this situation. If no, the next year could be even worse, so it is useless to put all the attention to 2014 before solving this problem (this could also be the reason why McLaren still tries it with the Mp4-28).
To me, the current test could be just this – a step in a controlled experiment in order to identify the weak point and to cure the development. If this is the case, factors like old car, demo tires, etc. don't matter so much.
