Just by chance this afternoon, I met someone who used to spectate at this hillclimb.

He painted a fairly clear map of where to look for what remains of this venue.

I have searched for some time to find a map of the course, or even a tourist map that might show where it started.

We will hopefully get together again and perhaps take a walk along the course.

If anyone can assist with details on White's Hill Hillclimb (especially in the 1930's), please post it here or send me a PM.

I have a long-standing promise from Barrie Watt that he will take me up there one day...

I'm pretty sure Bill Westerman would have been there as a kid too. Maybe Don Thallon as well.

I have the walking track map, and I am hoping that some of the tracks will follow the original summit road which formed the hillclimb course.

The key was to find the start - the fellow I met yesterday indicated the start was near where Boundary Road now cuts through the bushland. As a child in the late 40's, he recalls that access to White's Hill was via Cavendish Road which is some distance from Boundary Road.

A trip to the State Library today might unearth some early street maps of the area.

I'm hoping to take a walk through White's Hill later this week and report back here with a "Hillclimb" Track Map soon after.

So how did this adventure get on?

Did you get in touch with Barrie yet?

Put on hold while other projects take priority, Ray - an unexpected engine failure in a 1947 MG !.

I assume that Barrie can still be contacted at Watt's Buses at the Gabba ?.

Only from dawn until well into the evening...

He'll undoubtedly be happy to help you.

Found this in the Brisbane newspaper Sunday Mail, 20 June 1954. In a preview of  that day's QMSC hillclimb at Ferny Grove, QMSC Secretary  Fred Foster said "Ferny Grove  hill was straighter and faster than the club's previous  course at Whites Hill".

The strong implication is that Ferny Grove replaced Whites Hill.

That does seem to imply that...

By 1954 I'm pretty sure that White's Hill was finished. It's just a matter of whether or not Ferny Grove didn't start until then, or if it ran alongside White's Hill for a time.

Is there any indication of where the Ferny Grove course was?
