Under "Race Entrants" for the 1967 Belgian GP I am amazed to read A.J. Foyt's name. I tend to think this site does not make this reference without some basis although they haven't answered my query.

Needless to say his participation was non-existent but I wonder how his name ever got onto a form that went to registration for the event. Was the driver choice uncertain at the time the form was filled out and Foyt's name, perhaps without his permission, was used just to fill a box that would be more realistically assigned later? Was this a flight of fancy from a Goodyear representative? Was there ever actually a conversation with Foyt about doing the event?

Foyt did 3 Grand Prix through the Indy 500 counting, that was in 1958, 1959 and 1960. In addition to those, he was entered in 3 other Grand Epreuves.

1964 US Grand Prix, entered by Owens Racing Organization, to race a BRM P61 - Did not show.
1964 Mexico Grand Prix, entered by Owens Racing Organization, to race a BRM P61 - Did not show.
1967 Belgium Grand Prix, entered by Anglo American Racers, to race an Eagle T1G - I think he was a forfeit as was racing in another race not sure if another race at Spa or somewhere else.

I think this has been discussed previously so it might be worth a search to see what turns up.

Ah yes, of course. That was worth a search indeed, thanks all for pointing out what I should have known in the first place. And since it has been discussed previously (over 10 years ago in fact) I'll withdraw in respectful silence.

Since Gurney & Foyt had won LeMans the previous weekend, and Foyt had won the Indianapolis 500 within the previous three weeks, the promotional value of having Foyt at Spa is obvious, however unrealistic it might have been.

Eagle T1G

According to Dan Gurney, there never was any such designation as "T1G".

Boy, I would have love to have seen AJ Foyt driving a full season (or more) in Formula One. I am sure he would have been competitive, he was very talented

One of the greatest natural talents ever in my opinion. Certainly among a very few who could move easily from one type of racing to another and be competitive, if not dominant.
