NASCAR Weekend: Mid-Ohio/Michigan x 2

Marcos Ambrose hopes to rebuild his broken pride after Watkins Glen went sour. He is obviously the favorite despite never running here before, but he'll have AJ Allmendinger, Owen Kelly, Max Papis, Michael McDowell, and Sam Hornish to contend with. Oh, and Piquet. . .maybe. . . hopefully. Also, worth noting that Swede Alx Danielsson is attempting to making his NASCAR debut after failing to qualify for a K&N East race at Bristol earlier this year. He wants this to lead to a full-time effort next year, but it'll be an uphill battle if it's with Creation-Cope Racing.
Trucks at Michigan are always fun to watch. Last year, Nelson Piquet notched his first Truck victory here. Can Miguel Paludo or German Quiroga follow? They've been quick on the big tracks. So has my boy Bubba Wallace. Kyle Busch and Joey Logano are running to try and steal the glory.
Obviously, the biggest news in the Cup garage is the announcement that Juan Pablo is out of a ride next year. Will this light a fire under his ass like it has Newman's?
Oh, and Johnny Sauter is in the 98 (shout out to gm).
Should be a fun weekend.

Piquet for the win!!Penske's road course package is very good (and Allmendinger has a win at Road America to his credit), although Ambrose is still arguably Nascar's best driver on those tracks...hard to call.
At least I can dream...

Justin Dillon will skip NNS qualy to race Cup at Bitchigan.
Say by-bye to the NNS title Dillon. wave.gif
You suck on road courses, but you are discarding precious points here.
I don't undertand how the NNS will do that mini Corkscrew section Trouble at sight.

Piquet for the win!!

It seems Piquet was flattered by the #30 at RA last year, because so far he's been poor this season.

His equipment is not the same as Road America. It seems Piquet was flattered by the #30 at RA last year, because so far he's been poor this season.
In RA last year he was backed by Trent Owens.
This year by Chris Carrier w/ no experience in NNS cars.
Further to TSMotorsport not being a top NNS team yet, Piquet is often the top Chevrolet driver in the field [2nd in 1st practice; 1st in 2nd practice].
And finally Chevrolet has changed the body to Camaro this year while all others remains the same, so they have more work to do than the other teams.

After the Nationwide race, my GF and I are going to the county fair for the demolition derby.
It will bring back memories of when Steven Wallace was in Nationwide.

Figure-eight crossing over itself is something that could easily work as a track, and even sticking with only left turns you could create a circuit with more than 4 lefts. I'd rather just see a track like Barbagallo on steroids, though.
Like High Speed Ring in Gran Turismo.
Has it been confirmed if they will start like all other races at Mid-Ohio on the backstretch?

Of course, I also crash a TVR Speed 12 there, losing it at 268mph going into the first turn. "McDowell", as they later named it.

The continued success of Unnecessary Danica Mentions for IndyCar races has given me the confidence to do it for NASCAR as well, switching it up every week.
Interesting you bring that up, as Danica Patrick ranks 19th for mentions in Cup (according to Joyce Julius). I do expect more commercials though, as Nascar's TV deal means the broadcasters are paying tens of millions which they have to recoup from somewhere.

The continued success of Unnecessary Danica Mentions for IndyCar races has given me the confidence to do it for NASCAR as well, switching it up every week. This week, after remembering the combined races at Watkins Glen last weekend, I set the over/under for the broadcaster cutting to commercial with a five second splice of Radioactive by Imagine Dragons, effectively ruining that song forever, at 6.5.
Taking all bets!
At least one for her crash in which her teammate Marco Andretti flipped onto his lid.
Plus Andrew, that song wasn't that good anyways. Bit too much bad 90's alt-rock vibe to it. Unless Creed, Nickleback, 3 Doors Down is your style, that song just kinda, well, sucks.

Gaughan has 330 starts between Trucks, Nationwide and Cup; Sauter has over 400 (81 in Cup). Gaughan should have qualified a bit better, but neither team is particularly good.

It's the fakeness about it. I mean, he is pretending to be Earnhardt Sr. The car number, the hat, occasionally coming across as being a bit of a dick. If he'd stop being someone else, he'd win some races and earn his seat at RCR next year than just be the owners grandson.
I posted this earlier in the week:
10. There will never, EVER, be another Dale Earnhardt. He was the most charismatic driver in all of motorsport. He could be kind and likeable like a Jeff Gordon. He had the honest background that endeared the common man to his camp, there was no having his way paid for him, he had to work. He was genuine county, yet still sophisticated, you believed that this man was who you saw out working his farm, and he was just a country guy who made the big times. Now you get the faux country of the Dillon brothers, who think putting on a Stetson after the race somehow makes you country or more relatable to the common man. He had the wit and cutting remarks of Tony Stewart, but he never came off like a mean spirited jerk that Tony often comes off as. He embraced his fans and his critics, and he had driven in a manner to earn both. Now you get guys like a Kyle Busch, who seem to still show honest surprise whenever he is booed. Dale Earnhardt knew why he was being booed, and he was happy to create emotion from the crowd. I know this may be heavily influenced by rose tinted glasses, but there will never be another personality in this sport like The Intimidator, and that truly makes me sad.

TBF, he won the Truck championship, and he has won NW races. He is also leading NW points right now. There isn't much he can do more with the Buschwhackers suffocating the NW regulars this year. It's the fakeness about it. I don't like Austin Dillon all that much (and I don't mind Ty), but he does have ability and I think he would be getting looks even if he wasn't Childress son, his path would just be tougher.
Huh? If anything, he mocks the hater. That whole bowing to the crowd after the win is basically one big sarcastic 'suck it' to his haters. Now you get guys like a Kyle Busch, who seem to still show honest surprise whenever he is booed.
