If I remember correctly, Wayne suffered a nasty ankle injury which forced a long lay-off around that time (when under Harold?) and that he returned sometime later riding for Fowlers. I seem to recall (with my hazy memory) that at the time, there was talk of big plans with Fowlers (Trollope) which was reported to include a stab at Daytona, but Wayne's ankle continued to be a problem. Perhaps it was a factor in his retirement? I know that when Wayne won the 1975 Junior MGP he was on a Coppock sponsored bike, and he rode a Fowler-entered Tony Foale-framed monoshock TZ in the Senior race, but retired due to mechanical failure. It's possible that we might bump into Wayne at the Classic TT next week, as he now lives on the island. A great rider, who surely would have gone far if not for that ankle injury?

Thanks Barry I remember Wayne & Tony Rutter crashing together at the 1976 Trans Trophy meeting @ Brands during the 250 race, I think Wayne broke his leg?

Great pic of Taylor and Neil. I'm good friends with James and he told me he was fuming when he took delivery of a new crash helmet (the familiar design he shared with Jock, with the tartan band). Apparently whoever painted it assumed that, because James was Scottish, he'd want to be called Jimmy. So that's why he had Jimmy on his helmet.
