Didn't his nephew score a Pole Position in GP2 on the same track, in almost identical way - by spinning across the line into the wall?

The 1982 Swiss Grand Prix was actually held at Dijon in France due to Switzerland's long-established ban on motorsport. In the closing stages of the race, second-placed Keke Rosberg was eating up the gap to local hero Alain Prost in the Renault. With two laps left to run, the Williams team spotted an official preparing to wave the chequered flag early, but managed to distract him long enough for Rosberg to slip past Prost. The official was then reluctant to end the race at its scheduled distance, in case Prost could retaliate, so the race ran for 81 laps (although the official result was taken from lap 80).

Prost also missed the chequered flag at the 1985 British Grand Prix and completed another lap at racing speed to guarantee his victory.

Pelé was the celebrity guest at the 2002 Brazilian Grand Prix and had the honour of waving the chequered flag, but was so engrossed by the duel between the Schumacher brothers for the lead that he forgot to signal the end of the race.

midgrid, I thought they finished the 1985 British GP a lap too early. Am I mistaken?

Must be definitely Prost trying to push his car to the finishing line in Hockenheim 1986: Prost runs out of fuel at Hockenheim - 1986 German GP (4:30)

Nightfall in Korea 2010

Somewhat less glamorous - lengthy delays caused by FIA GT1 drivers trying to kill themselves means that the last round of the British F3 Championship 2012 ends in near pitch darkness on a wet October evening...

Yes, you're right. In the official video review, Prost (who narrates this race) says that he didn't see a flag, but after further research, this was because an official on one side of the circuit had waved his flag (one lap too early), but his counterpart opposite had not, so Prost continued until he was sure the race was over. Apparently the confusion was caused by the fact that, after Senna's late retirement, Prost was a lap ahead of the rest of the field.

This is the lap that popped into my head as soon as I saw the thread title. Our man Bjorn starts celebrating his maiden win at Monaco 20 metres too early...

And not sure if it's bizarre as such but since there's been a few calls for Brazil 2008 then this definitely deserves to be there, in my opinion the greatest final lap ever in motorsport :)

Longer version with Christian Horner's reactions:

Carl Edwards flips from first place and stops short of the line and on fire, then bails and runs across the finish line on foot.

I love this one, and was just about to post it. Who needs a car to cross the finish line?

Quick googling http://forums.corvet...-the-drags.html

OT but what does quick googling mean? Does that mean there is extended googling?

Yes, actually.
It involves googling 'Tony Stewart Broken Leg', which leads you to google 'Stewart-Haas Engine Deal', which leads you to google 'Danica Patrick Contract 2014', which leads you to google 'Danica Patrick in Bikini'
Next thing you know you are googling 'India Summer'.
Extended googling.

Ayrton Senna, French Grand Prix, Magny Cours 1991 (Final qualifying)

Ayrton spun on Olivier Grouillard's oil and still qualified 3rd! crossing the line while spinning towards a wall.
