According to the Indendent the BRDC has sold the lease of Silverstone, dread to think what will happen to the cicuit once profiteers get their hands on it.

The story has not been followed by other serious journalists which may be suggestive -- unless all other writers are on holiday... The story has not been reported in the Financial Times, the UK newspaper of business record.

Perhaps the Independent have a good insider leak on current negotiations. Or maybe somebody is playing games. Or that the Independent journalists (CHRISTIAN SYLT , CAROLINE REID) have formidable insight of the BRDC, a club comprising some of the most contrary people in the world.

That's Bernie-style spin. Real financial stories have substance. Un-named source tells writer that un-named company will rent Silverstone: classic fear, uncertainty and doubt.

The Independent story has it that the buyer is "A Real Estate Company", which I think is the American equivalent of what most of us would refer to as an "Estate Agent". Next thing we know, a sharp-suited advertising festooned Mini-driving young man in his early twenties will be telling us that the run-off area at Club is "deceptively spacious". But maybe they meant a "Property Developer", which seems rather more likely, providing there's any truth at all in this story of course, which seems unlikely given that no-one else has taken it up so far.

That article seems to be a rehash of the original in the Independent. I trust that more and it says that an announcement about the buyer is due next month so we dont have to wait long to find out if this is true.

If you read the Pitpass piece, it claims that the Independent article was written by Pitpass personnel, Chris Balfe and Christian Sylt, so as it's a common source each is as trustworthy as the other.

I was sat next to Tim Parnell at a dinner on Thursday night last, and he advised me that the BRDC AGM has unexpectedly been postponed until October. I asked him about the sale of the lease, and the only response I was able to elicit from him was that currently, it was a "right mess.......".

More likely to be Waitrose as any building on the site would be up-market detached villas.

However I suspect the 'development' may be on the surrounding fields rather than the race track and they are more likely to be business properties and motels rather than dwellings.

Well house building it where the real money is at 15 to the acre.
There is demand to meet the vastly increasing population in this country all the time , they want a million new homes underway as soon as possible.
You start off with a couple of housing estates half a mile away , they move in, then complain about the noise to the council , who then solve all their problem by granting planning consent over the whole circuit and surrounding 4000 acres and someone makes ten of billions, with something the size and scope of Milton Keynes.
' Silverstone Parva New Town '- site of the once world famous motor racing track. Brooklands was not saved and Brands is another prime site. for the same treatment

I hope you are wrong but I can easily believe this, especially given the financial gains from taxpayer funded, government promoted 5% deposits on 'new builds' and the true population figures here.

Meanwhile the rumour on the street at the recent Oldtimer meeting suggests that the Ring has been sold to private interests. If this is true then no 'private' corporation/business would be willing to risk the legal consequences of the inevitable fatalities that occur on the Nordschleife, lawyers would have a field day. Thus the track would be closed to private individuals that formerly had access and the Ring's status as a de facto public toll road owned by the state would be ended. This would decimate local hotels, garages and the legion of local expertise that depend upon the Ring to generate business.

Not a happy time methinks.
