Alonso's manager is in Spa at the moment. They were having a helicopter ride above the circuit today.

Now that leaves room for more speculation.

Drivers fly in to Spa often as the road is just not to drive.

I am pretty sure Alonso is at Ferrari next year, likewise Button at McLaren. The only question about big players is where will Kimi be.

Those were double champions only. It was Alonso's fifth year in the sport and fourth year at Renault. He was the test driver for Renault in 2002 and those years you could test unlike now. He probably drove more laps with Renault testing back then than this season at Ferrari.

Sorry, missed the bit about them having two be 2x WDC. And I agree on the testing, which I think is a shame has made it such an uneven playing field for drivers coming into the sport now.

James Allen:

Alonso’s body language was open and defiant. He gave little away emotionally, save for a wipe of the eye when discussing the Montezemolo criticism. Asked point blank whether he would be driving for Ferrari next year he gave a shrug which implied “of course” but he didn’t say it. Some Italian colleagues believe that he may decide to stop or take a sabbatical next year if he does not win the title this year.

Interesting.

How would you know that? What if Kimi dominates Massa and Grosjean destroys Alonso? In this case I would wait the end of that season.

I gotta think that the upgrade would really be the Santander $$$$$, that comes with Alonso. If Grosjean can beat Fernando (which I doubt), then it means he has realized his potential. If not you still have 1 of the top 4 in Alonso, and a budget suitable for a top team. Not that I think any of this will happen, but it would be a win/win situation for Lotus. It'd be pretty good for Fred too, given what Lotus has been doing on a limited budget.

As for Ferrari .... if Kimi dominates Felipe, how are things different? It is the car that is the problem there and losing Fernando and Santander won't help, no matter how good Kimi is.

If Alonso is true to form, he should be preparing to go to WRC next year.

Now autosport.com quotes Horner that RBR was made aware that Alonso might be a free agent next year, and they add that RBR was not the only team to have been told this.

With Mercedes being full (unless Rosberg does a surprise move to Ferrari  :drunk: ), and McLaren not being an option for Alonso, RBR are Lotus seem to be the options, if he should really decide to leave Ferrari.

But I cannot see him move from Ferrari to Lotus. He's been at Enstone and knows that it's a lot of work there to have good results. Why switch before the new engine formula if he has the option to stay one more season with Ferrari and then choose whatever team/engine combination came out on top? It seems silly to switch teams now, only to find yourself in the wrong boat.

In that respect, Lotus would be a risky choice due to their money shortage. RBR, however, is probably a very safe choice under any circumstances, as long as Newey is working there.

Bottom line: a move from Alonso to Lotus for next year would be unreasonable.

The longer this goes on, the more I am convinced that nothing's going to change.   :drunk:

Here Ferrari go with the firing drivers again

Anyway, Lotus will obviously be where he should go.

Alonso will stay at Ferrari.

If he leaves Ferrari, he will go to McLaren. Because Martin likes him there and neither Ron or Hamilton is there anymore.

Why? Because it's no more stupid than any more rumours.

Alonso stays at Ferrari though. Is partnered by Kimi or Hulkenberg or maybe di Resta och Bianchi. But since this is silly season, Massa probably stays yet again for some stupid reason.

Really?, I wonder if this journalists use their brain when they write or talk, a top driver in a top team with a multiyear contract decide to take a sabbatical in the most important season in the last decade (because the huge change in the regulations)
