Which search engine is fully compatible with these fora?

Google site search works very well. Just type in your search terms and then add "site:forums.autosport.com" (without the quotation marks) to the search box. If you wish to search a particular part of the board you can expand that to - for example - "site:forums.autosport.com/forum/10-the-nostalgia-forum". The only one it can't search is Paddock Club, since the Google bot doesn't have 30 posts on the board and can't beg!

I'm not talking about the search function V2, I find it difficult to understand how you think that I am. The message that you quote is perfectly clear, "on what search engine do Autosport fora function correctly". Read the post that follows that one and the countless others from many members.

M11, you asked about search engines (eg Google, Bing and Ask) and V2 has answered you correctly. Did you perhaps intend to ask which web browsers (eg Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome) were compatible with these fora?

Yes, you're right Tim. Apologies V2. Too old to get on terms with the jargon. ;)

 Sincere apologies for earlier response. Must try harder with the correct terms.

This still leaves your two very pertinent questions still awaiting answers, M11:

Which web browsers (if any) are completely compatible with the Autosport fora (ie don't experience any problem in posting photos, links, emoticons, quotes etc)?

and:

IP Board is adamant that Autosport's incompatibility with Windows is easily fixed with a, they say, simple patch. Kaspersky, which is exactly the same board as this, except they offer a far more eye pleasing skin, have used the patch and I understand it is fully compatible and functional with all IE's. I can certainly vouch for IE9. Is there some reason as to why Autosport are reluctant to implement this supposedly simple repair? It has, after all been non-functional for 18 months with very little comment from yourselves.

We should like some answers, please, Grayson & Co.

I truly do not believe that there is much chance of getting a response Tim.

With IE9, I have never had a problem posting photos although I don't use the "post image" button. I simply paste the code for "forums" given in photobucket. As far as quotes and links are concerned, I am able to carry out both operations by switching the light switch on and off to achieve different things in the same post. Emoticons don't exist as far as IE9 is concerned, the work-around is remembering the code for each item and invariably leaving a double space at the beginning and end of that code. The Silk browser on Kindle is the same, see what I did there,   ;)  no sign of emoticons but even worse, and I use the full version as opposed to mobile, on Silk (Kindle) it is impossible to get anything other than a simple post box, there is no functionality at all because no options can be seen on the tool bar, is that the correct term?

This bit,

I have to use the light switch for IE11 too, otherwise pasting doesn't work properly.  I don't get the row of easy-click emoticons below either.

No problem - I figured something must have got lost in the translation!

Since the image auto-sizing problem was fixed I have experienced no problems whatsoever using Firefox. Until recently I was running Firefox beta - which updates at least weekly - on a W7 Home Edition SP1 system, but its hard drive died a month ago. I now run the release version of Firefox on W8.1 Pro, since the stuff on the new machine is slightly more mission-critical. I use Classic Shell with Windows 8.1 and a highly customised version of Firefox, with more than forty extensions.

When I've fitted a new HD in the W7 machine, I'll be reinstalling Firefox beta on it. Maybe even try the pre-release of W10 too ...

If anyone does have problems here with Firefox, the simplest solution - unless you have a bunch of customisations and extensions which could take a while to reinstall - might be to create a new profile. Simply go to Help>Troubleshooting Information and click the 'Refresh Firefox' button. Restart and you're done!

I am on Firefox 30.0 and the company find the idea that a mere employee in a tangent to the IT functions should have any administrative rights bad, now we all need an upgrade since ADP's new portal need 31.0 or higher, not sure what that will do for me, only quirk I get is sometimes when posting as a quote or one holding a picture I lose the emoticons at the bottom, if I then go to the more reply options they reappear.

Not a deal big enough to mean anything to me, but since there is a discussion just wanted to throw it in here.

My issue with Firefox is a forum issue, not a Firefox issue.  Other boards using the same software do NOT have the problem of a multi-picture thread not navigating to the most recent post when that option of viewing a thread is selected.  It's very fvcking annoying, and no doubt will never be fixed here.

Indeed, Neil. But as has been previously explained, it's because the pictures are hosted on remote servers which respond at different rates.

And the hosting issue ain't up for negotiation.

Are you sure you're not on Firefox 31? That's the current ESR 'enterprise' version. ESR 38 is due in May.

Yes I am sure, my company run a quirky 'system' when dealing with updates and upgrades, nothing is ever done automatically and with the ADP issue they now have to rush an upgrade nation wide, where I incidentally suggested a logon script exactly 37 days ago for this exact issue, when first message went out.

Nice to see that there are developers still working on Autosport.com however, they'd be far more gainfully employed fixing the compatibility problems that we've suffered for 18 months rather than concentrating their efforts on adding an unlike button.

Nope, not buying that.  Again I will point out that other forums, where pictures are also hosted remotely, work perfectly fine when clicking the "Go to most recent unread post".

Not that I expect it ever to be fixed..

On my phone, even though I signed in to my account on the Mobile site, I still see ads when browsing the forum becasue I didn't sign in to my account on the Desktop version. So, I go to te Desktop version on my phone and sign in by checking the remember me option, but after a certain time, the Desktop version throws me out, causig those ads to appear in the forum yet again although I'm still signed in to the Mobile version. Somehow, the mobile forum ads are tied with desktop version, which is incredibly counter intuitive. Can you please do some thing about it?

I know this is frustrating, and we really want to get it sorted, but it's a surprisingly large issue to fix. We've got a fix planned as part of a larger project which is taking place this year, so hopefully this will be fixed by the summer!

If you're interested in the reason, it's because the main desktop site and the mobile version of Autosport are effectively two different sites as far as the cookies shared between them are concerned while the forum is one site with two different views (three if you include the Atlas skin). The forums are currently able to read the desktop site's cookies but not the mobile site's cookies, and fixing this turned out to be a much bigger job than we were expecting.
