We used to have a video, sent to us by someone from England I think, of a great race between an Escort and the Thomas Camaro...

Commentary was by Murray Walker and the Camaro spun, as I recall. It was a pretty good race!

Ray - that saloon race film was a part of BBC's "100 great sporting moments", which is on YouTube, here in two parts...

Another motor sport film shown in the same series was the F3 race, with a last corner incident after which James Hunt decked Dave Morgan. But subsequently Morgan got banned...

Curiously, whilst the saloon race is in B&W, the F3 race - from 2 years earlier - is in colour.

Edit:

Hmm... didn't mean the links to come up in that form... just the urls.

Assume this is a product of the new 'low-legibility' forum format since I did nothing different.

And I've just realized how poor those clips are - they're stretched to a wide-screen format, even a Camaro isn't that wide...

There may be less distorted versions online somewhere.

And an 'Edit' seems to just create a new post unless you select the 'Full editor' option.

In case of any date confusion, I think Joan's original query relates to the 1972 RAC race for which Tony provided the scan. The superb footage of the Camaro/Escort battle is an Osram round, from 1971, and the Hunt/Morgan F3 race (with strong support from Walker, Beuttler and Trimmer) was in the autumn of 1970.

That's correct - I was responding specifically to Ray's subsequent post. The original query is about a BSCC round.

My error in saying "from 2 years earlier" may have added to any confusion.

Thanks, John, that is the race...

It began with a reminder that it was then ten years since the last race at the Palace IIRC.

Cracked that one - For some inexplicable reason it jumps down to the new post window and you have to scroll up again to where you want to edit.  Not exactly an improvement!.
