I guess I'm admitting I like racing in motor races.

seemingly Alonso said the following to Spanish media

And that is really bad taste, you never wish anyone to have an accident...

just imagine an accident happens next race and Seb gets seriously hurt.... then there is that quote of you.... is that then what you wished for?

Oh for Christ's sake. The drivers can't say anything these days without someone jumping on their back.

No wonder they're all boring corporate monkeys.

hasn't to do with whether you are a driver or not... it is generally not good behaviour to wish bad stuff to happen to anybody... no matter if you are a driver or not...

It was a throw-away remark. It's not like he categorically said that he'd like Vettel to be injured.

Calm down.

I have no issue with what Fernando said, but he specifically mentioned his issues from last year, seemingly he can't get over it?

He was joking, something that you can clearly tell in the context of the conversation and his body language and voice tone.

If you think any driver will wish for others to have a crash........ maybe you didn't noticed that Alonso almost lost his head last year.

I like Brundle, but him, like all the other commentators, can be dim as bricks sometimes. I find it very hard to understand why people, much less experienced racing drivers, can't grasp at the simplicity of racing ETIQUETTE, that has nothing to do with F1-specific rules, at all.

But the again, I tend to be a self-righteous SOB sometimes, but here's how I see it:

- if someone is alongside you and you crowd them off the road, you can only do it IF you're on the racing line

.

Disagree here. You can't do deliberate crowding no matter what. It is as simple as that and as much is in the rule book. The concept of racing line is pretty much irrelevant when it comes to wheel-to-wheel racing. All space in the track is totally entitled to be raced at in this situation.

So, if someone is trying to overtake on the outside, exiting a corner, and you crowd them off the road, you're in the right.

Again, not right. Sorry, I don't mean to offend you, you do make a lot of points right, but just pointing out ones I think are wrong so that we could have a discussion of the understanding behind it from both poits of view. Back to the point, one cannot crowd someone intentionally no matter the circumstances. Sometime you are so much on the edge, that only the guy on the inside can take the corner comfortably. In such case you are already out of control being on the edge, so you can't do anything about the other driver, which is fine. But you can't really say - you are on the outside, I will just run you out off the track (the often proudly-proclaimed 'hanging someone out to dry'). That is again deliberate crowding and the law explicitly prohibits that.

The leaving one-car width space is only to counter against double-move. If enough space is left no matter what on the outside, it can never be a second move.

The best part of this race was seeing Alonso charge through the field in the first laps, culminating with his overtake on Lewis..

You don't see that very often anymore..

Yes, other drivers make some impressive overtakes but Alonso makes them against top cars and top competitors, which is no where near comparable.

Raikkonen and Hamilton can also make very good overtakes - against top cars, top drivers and in difficult places. Vettel too does it whenever he is behind. Button is another very good one. Webber is pretty canny as well. Really, Alonso is nothing special in this regard.  At the very least, Raikkonen and Hamilton are on par with him, if not better.

:rotfl: what Raikkonen does more often than any of the other top drivers is get overtaken by slower cars..

Can't get over losing a 40-point World Driver's Championship lead due to two DNFs that, arguably, weren't his fault. Can you blame him?

He's being realistic in saying Vettel needs a DNF or two for him to be able to compete at this point.

Right, that's why he was rated to be the best in wheel-to-wheel racing, the best overtaker and such last year. Seriously, I have no idea what you are talking about. As long as it makes you feel better..

What I saw was Kimi overtaking cars in the second sector of spa, which is quite rare, but is something he has to do as the lotus lacks the straightlinespeed. You always have to take into account the cars the drivers deal with when you compare them. I think not many would disagree if I said Ferrari is a better car to overtake with than to say Lotus or RB which's strengths are in other areas. None of the Alonsos overtakes were superimpressive. Of course alonso can pull off great overtaking moves too but in this race he didnt have to. But take raikkonens overtake of sutil for example, again massive spatial awareness, and he managed to dodge perez weird moves this time. And I didnt see raikkonen being overtaken by any slower car yesterday expect for the start which pretty much is 90% luck especially if you start from the middlefield. This time grosjean missed gearchange( so I've heard) cost kimi a few places.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but Hamilton said in the Green Room before the podium that he had let Alonso through so he could nail him with DRS down to Les Combes. Interesting strategy, remember him doing something similar in Montreal

And with Nico in Malaysia. It's something Lewis has done quite a few times. Although my favourite "DRS trick" from Lewis was passing PDR after the detection zone but before the activation point in Hungary – meaning that he went on to the straight ahead of Paul, then had the DRS to pull away even further!

We even got a thread for it!

About my trip to Spa: Belgian Grand Prix

Overall, I loved the experience.  Was not one of the best Belgian GPs of recent memory, but seeing those cars (for the last time with screaming V8s) on that track was really something special.  Watching the charge thru Eau Rouge and Raidillon and on to Kemmel Straight was amazing.  Here is a sample of my pics:
